who's taking this stuff?

OK. So, out of curiosity, I googled Seconal and...a goodrx link popped up. As in...for slightly under 1,000 (w/ an Rx), you can have 30 capsules of Seconal in the US.

Somebody posted something about Meprobamate a while back. So, again, out of curiosity, I googled it. Not nearly as expensive as Seconal, but..wow. Somebody's taking it, clearly.

Other barbiturates came up, too (weird). Butisol...the one in headache tablets. Expensive, but not Seconal-level expensive.

Which raises the question...who's taking these retro remedies? And...who's prescribing them?

Oh, and...1 additional question...who does pricing on these bad boys? The meprobamate was reasonable enough, but Seconal was Abilify-level expensive and the Butisol was a couple hundred $$$.

Benzedrine is back, too...as Evekeo, which is a couple hundred $$$ per month, too (and still indicated for "exogenous obesity," btw).

Is this progress, or has psychiatry run out of ideas?

seconal used to be popular decades ago, but it's ability cause toxic overdose is high, but mainly a doctor that's old school, or in special cases where it is needed for insomnia, they use it alot in hospitals for sleep (not psych)

you would have to work with a doctor for them to prescibe seconal, meprobamate not sure, it's less toxic but still has a black box for addiction

there's a few people here on babble years ago that took seconal, one who took Tuinal......there great sedatives and im very sure it's pleasant to relax the nerves and chill out but it's limited and not alot of doctors keep those in mind these days. Ativan, Xanax, Tempazepam, Klonopin are main ones the US that are used.......there always will be doctors that will work and use other side ones....

Barbiturates are sometimes used for seizure disorders that don't respond to other anti-seizure meds.

Timely post!

I just started taking it, in my norepinephrine reuptake quest. I think I like it better than adderall - no rush feeling, and I feel very calm on it.

actually, I wish there was something that was 75% levoamphetamine instead of 50%. Or even 100%.
