gabapentin, pregabalin and tiagabine

Posted by paulb on December 16, 2015, at 12:28:17

Hi

I cannot tolerate pregabalin anymore. It is too strong for me. If Im right 50mg pregabalin is 300mg gabapentin which i tolerate much better but have typical tolerance problems i.e i need to need to increase the dose until poop-out occurs and wait a while. Its a bit like someone who cannot tolerate clonazepam because its 0.5 potency and a person will do miuch better on lorazepam which is 1mg potency which is often the case ive heard. anyway is tiagabine as strong as pregabalin or more like gabapentin. Could i be prescribed a small dose of tiagabine and get a gabapentin like effect. I would appreciate your views but the only way i can find out is to ask my pysician to try it thanks babblers paulb

if Lyrica is too strong, maybe increase gabapentin , i was on 800mg 4 times daily for a short period of time, it did take care of anxiety, but it's not a med for panic attacks, in emergency situation for anxiety lorazapam or alprazolam are the indications for immidiate relief

tiagabine, yes it can help anxiety but i've read reports researching it whil back that it can have side effects espcially for people who don't have sieuzres, but i mean it's safe you could try it but it's just i've read it has heavy side effects

oher medications such as Buspar (increases serotnin but decreases dopamine) atarax - hydroxyzine is good med but it's not vary potent, and also clonodine (blood pressure medication) which i've been on for 2 years, it doesnt relieve anxiety like benzo's do through GABA, it decreses blood pressure and reduces stress tension but it also can make me sluggy, but in it's own way it could be a good add on lorazepam

Thanks for responding to my message and what you said hit a chord with me. If I need to take a break from gabapentin(Because honestly pregabalin is so strong it doesnt even work at all sometimes)then maybe tiagabine would be a good alternative for a while. Its the side-effects you mention that do concern me-this sounds like a pretty heavy med but i read in a psychopharmacology book that came out this year that 2-4 mg of tiagabine might be useful for people who find it too strong. If you read this let me know what you think. thanks pb

there where sources i read on internet blogs from people, but the high dose is 16mg, and you don't want to take that high of a dose for the first time, it would really alter nuerotransmitters too much

tiagabine is a gaba reuptake inhibitor, but it's not the type that i benzo would do, it just means more gaba in the brain, like prozac....it blocks the reuptake of serotonin, tiagabine does the same only with gaba

well....i mean drving on xanax is safe if you know how the drug effects you, i drove home on a heavy dose of alprazolam when i had to take it for anxiety at a party because of the anxiety i had that night and i could not take it and i ha to used the alprazolam.....to drive home to calm down

you just, gotta get how it works, and adjust it to driving......

someone could flip out even on antidepressants if they where too sensitive to driving problems
