Magic Mushrooms - Psilocybin

Posted by Meltingpot on August 26, 2015, at 8:10:43

Hi,

I get a lot of help from antidepressants, get some kind of quality of life which I wouldn't have without them. However, they have never worked as well as they did when I was in my 20s (when I only had to take a small dose and I felt cured).

I'm always hoping for a cure, so that I wouldn't feel like I'm having to take something just to be a nice (non irritable), non suicidal person.

I managed to get on a trial here in the UK for Psilocybin but about 5 weeks before going on the trial I tried coming off my Seroxat again (I didn't have to, just wanted to try), started feeling very depressed and anxious again, it makes me realise how lucky I am that it helps so much and I don't want to jeopardise that.

I then started googling "depression, anxiety and magic mushrooms" (bad idea I know) and read some horrible things about some people's experiences and also somebody said that they are not to be messed with if you do suffer with depression and anxiety.

I also read that psilocybin is a 5HT2 agonist and I've gained a lot of relief from Zyprexa and Trazodone which are both antagonists at the 5HT2 receptors. Maybe I am oversimplifying things but this fact made me wonder what a 5HT2 agonist would actually do to me.

Has anyone on this site had any experience of psilocybin and has it helped with your depression?

I hate to think I backed out of trying something which might have helped but I was just scared of making things worse.

Denise

The effects of psilocybin are highly variable and depend on the mindset and environment in which the user has the experience, factors commonly referred to as set and setting.

Panic reactions can occur after consumption of psilocybin-containing mushrooms, especially if the ingestion is accidental or otherwise unexpected

Psylocibin mimics the effects of serotonin in the brain.

Psilocybin is being researched in the treatment of depression but no studies have been conclusive. However, magic mushrooms have shown great efficacy in treating OCD and cluster headaches.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for responding. I've found a site that recommends microdosing with psilocybin, it is something I might consider. I just need to find out how much a microdose actually is and where I can obtain it from.
