Belviq (Weightloss) + MAOI (Naril/Marpan)??

Posted by PeterMartin on December 16, 2013, at 8:45:19

Is taking Belviq with an MAOI 100% out of the question? I'm a bit over the obese threshold (32bmi) and have taken Marplan for 4yrs. My weight is definitely trending in the wrong direction.....

I see my doc in Jan and I'm going to discuss weight issues with him. Just curious if in order to try Belviq I'd have to get up Marplan.....

Has anyone on Naril, Marplan, or Parnate used Belviq as an adjunct? I know weightgain is a big complaint about Naril so figured one or two must have looked into the possiblity....

Anyone? Blood tests came back yesterday and I have fatty liver. Just another reason to lose some weight but exercise seems to be insufficient due to meds (or my gut bacteria maybe(?)).

I've been following this persons recent trial of belviq so far:

10 or so lbs in a month would be great for me. I'm seeing my pdoc in Jan and really hope discuss my options. If Belviq is 100% out as long as I'm in Marplan than at least I'll know it's better to research some potential alternatives or consider a med change....

If anyone has taken Belviq on any psych med please post!! I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone who has taken the newer Contrave, Metaformin, or Topamax. I'm thinking my pdoc would be OK w adding a small amount of Topamax but I'm concerned about the cognitive side effects.....

Thanks for any comments on this old single post topic....

Peter....Whatever you decide stay with the MAOI. Yes they're noted for weight gain. The only way I've managed is to stay away from carbos of any source.

I've managed to avoid them by taking a high dose of biotin. 3300% RDA. My initial use for biotin was to get off benzos and it worked like a charm. It has definitely helped with my craving for carbos. I've actually dropped @ 8 lbs. this past month.
