Added 800 mg carbamazapine, switched to 12 mg Inve

Posted by phidippus on November 26, 2014, at 17:52:39

I was on 900 mg Lithium, 160 mg of Geodon and 100 mg of Luvox. I became manic and added 800 mg of carbamazapine, but remained manic. Switching my 160 mg of Geodon to 12 mg of Invega curbed the remaining mania.

Why did switching from 160 mg of Geodon to 12 mg of Invega calm my mania?

You may want to lower the luvox. This one seems to have a somewhat higher propensity to initiate mania.

My only guess...Geodon has built-in AD action. Mixing it with an SSRI might, plus any psychosocial stuff, biological stuff we don't understand, blah blah blah...

...might make mania/hypomania/breakthrough mania more likely. I don't know anything about Invega, but if its anything like Risperdal...

..not the most mood elevating thing ever, lol.

i think invega is harder on slowing the nuero's than geo......when i took geodon it was not really that strong compared to zyprexa, and they use invega at hospitals sometimes for choice mania treatment, but mainly it's used for schizophenia....

i found this link:
http://www.consumerreports.org/health/resources/pdf/best-buy-drugs/AntipsychoticsFINAL.pdf

that should fill a small comparison of both of their diffreinces and other AP's

Have you ever tried Luvox (fluvoxamine)? It is supposed to be helpful in the treatment of psychotic depression.

How do you define mania when you describe your symptoms? How is this different from schizoid psychosis without mania?

Do you ever suffer from severe depression?

Words are important. I just want to make sure that we understand your illness in order to offer you more relevant feedback.

What is your current diagnosis as determined by your doctors?

Joe I would like to know this also. And I remember poster Larry Hoover his posting name said that luvox caused him to become psychotic? I don't get any of this? Phillipa

I think I agree. Plus I'm takin 12 mg of Invega as opposed to the max 160 mg of Geodon. 12 mg of Geodon is about 3mg more than the max dose recommended for Invega.

I also think Invega antagonizes most receptors, whereas Geodon agonized 5ht1a and 5ht1b receptors and was an SNRI to boot.

It may be sedating, but its actions on serotonin reuptake are similar, if not the same as other SSRIs.

Whether a medication is sedating usually has to do with their separate mechanisms of action on other receptors-for instance Mirtazapine is sedating not for its serotogenic properties but because it antagonizes histamine receptors.

I don't know why luvox is sedating to some. I don't find it sedating.

I don't seem to be having any mania with the current regiment-800 mg carbamazapine, 900 mg lithium, 12 mg Invega, 100 mg Luvox, 70 mg Vyvanse.

I've actually swung in to some bad depression!

I would think that Risperidone and son of Risperidone could do that, since Risperidone is more typical-ish than the other atypicals. I know a little bit of risperidone on top of my other stuff (its PRN, for agitation) dampens my mood.
