Vortioxetine (Brintellix) - for social anxiety

Posted by Diego11 on August 4, 2014, at 8:29:21

Has anyone already tried this drug for social anxiety disorder and GAD with any success ? Please share your experiences.

I have tried about 35+ drugs (including Nardil, Moclobemide) without any long-term effects...

I recall a long discussion on this med not too long ago. It may be still on the med board visible. Phillipa

Diego:

I've been on Brintellix 30mg/day for 4+ months now. I have a severe anxiety disorder. Like you, I have tried many drugs (mostly SSRI class though), and this trial is not turning out much better than the others. I'd give Brintellix a 3/10 rating for some of my GAD symptoms (tension, paranoia, social inhibition). Overall, though, it's not a robust antidepressant/anti-anxiety effect, and it's way too expensive for me ($250/month) even with insurance. So, when I go back to my p-doc next week, I'm likely to give something else a go. Like anything, it's a worth try, though if you haven't yet, I think.

I'm sorry you've had to experience so many med trials. And that Nardil, the supposed gold standard, failed you. I've got SA, too, and even Xanax or klonopin didn't help much. Right now I am trying Lexapro. The doc offered Brintellix, but I decided to go with something I had taken before. I have't heard much about B. but there was one person here that gave it a stellar review. I am starting ERP therapy (mixed with CBT). Have you heard of it?

have you considered a very low dose atypical on top of everything else, plus therapy?

I forgot to write that Lyrica reeeally helps my GAD.

What are your thoughts on a stimulant? Dexedrine?

Stimulants do help with concentration and make people more sociable, which can in turn help anxiety (I seem to recall reading that they help social phobia...something about dopamine systems...I dunno).

If you kept the Lyrica, you'd have a kind of "goofball," a stimulant+sedative mix. They made those from the 40s-70s, and many people found them quite effective for anxiety, depression, weight loss, etc. Think "Dexamyl" (barbiturate+dexedrine), Eskatrol (low dose neuroleptic+dexedrine), ThoraDex (thorazine at a low dose w/ Dexedrine), etc.

I think its worth a shot, especially since you suspect ADD/ADHD. The Lyrica could help anxiety and take the edge off the stimulant. An antidepressant of some persuasion, or maybe a low dose neuroleptic of some sort, could help smooth things out as well.

Someone I know takes Seroquel XT at night and Adderall XR in the morning. Works well for...well, just about everything for her.

35+ drugs? If you've been on SSRIs before and they didn't work, Brintellix will probably not provide you with relief.

Have you ever tried Topomax? In a couple of studies it has been shown to be effective in the treatment of social anxiety.

How has therapy worked for you?

are you sure you don't have some physical malady? I don't know what could be causing this...a vitamin deficiency or something?
