SSRIs never worked! Why?

Posted by chinaboy on July 25, 2014, at 5:29:05

Hi there:

So far, I have tried all the SSRIs, but they never worked.
Drugs that are of some use to me include: Nardil, Parnate, Mirtazapine, Wellbutrine, Reboxetine.
But Why? I wonder Why SSRI worked crap and why NE drugs were better?
Does that suggest the underlying cause to my disorder lies on NE instead of 5HT?
So,in this sense, will TCAs influencing both NE and 5HT work?
To save money, my pdoc wanted me to try amitriptyline plus 2.5mg Abilify. Is this a reasonable combo?

Psych meds don't seem to correct imbalances or anything. Its an issue of making the right alteration in brain chemistry to create the right alteration in mood and outlook and possibly behavior. See what I'm saying?

Your doc's combo sounds good enough to me. Elavil can be rough stuff. At least the Abilify is low dose and shouldn't be sedating.

Thanks for the reply!
Today was the 2nd day of taking amitriptyline. With the addition of 2.5mg Abilify, the crying bell had came to an end and I could think more clearly, which never happened when I was on low dose Abilify plus antidepressant before. I felt good, though never as good as when I was on Nardil or Parnate

According to manufacture's remarks, Abilify could only augmenter SSRI, but the possibility of Abilify augmenting TCA was never mentioned. What a surprise to me!

Really hope it could last! Best wishes to those who has read my post.

I responded to Ritalin very well! But stimulants are strictly controlled in China, so I cannot get them easily.

I really feel that there must be something wrong with my NE, but strangely, I responded to TCAs poorly:)

Hi Eric:

It's very likely that I may have ADHD at the same time.

Drugs for ADHD are strictly controlled in China, so I use Wellbutrin, thanks to its NE property, to help me concentrate.

It seems that TCA don't work for me,either.

Some of the depression you experience may be ADHD related. I recommend you take a stimulant along with an SNRI.

Eric
