10-15mg zyprexa

Posted by Zyprexa on July 7, 2014, at 22:17:36

So I've been going back and forth between 10 and 15mg trials for the last 5 years and finaly I decided to try, with a suggestion from dad, a 12.5mg /d dose. What do you know its working.

10mg: nightmares, grumpy, psychotic dreams.
15mg: little over does it. Great moods.

have you thought about 20mg? i really don't think i need to be on zyprexa but if i don't take it at night, the next day i am fluttered and over irrtible....

maybe stay with 15? maybe bump it to 17.5 some people here said they did that....

higher the zyprexa the more sedation.....and also calming abilities to the mind.....5-10mg is more like the standard dose for people starting it.....

try 20mg.....it will cause sedation yes, but it will calm the mind......i went to a psych hospital in 09 out of my mind and they gave me zydis 20mg and it knocked all my manic thoughts under water....vary good med for fast thought irrtibile syndrome....

could you ask your doctor to add something to zyprexa? geodon.....i was on it....it does work well....

That's awesome. I've heard that zyprexa can be kinda tricky; too low you still have problems, too high you're too tranquilized. Maybe that's true of most neuroleptics?

Anyway, glad its working out. Have you ever considered adding in an anticonvulsant-type mood stabilizer? I read that those drugs can help with some symptoms and keep the AP dose a little lower (or prevent the need for dosage increase). I forget the mechanism...

...glad 12.5 is working out! Do you still take perphenazine?

Well 3 days of 12.5mg did not work out, so back on 15. My doc has some idea that I just don't need it or something, she keeps trying to reduce it. Thats when I started smoking a lot of pot.. a few years back. My triglicerided were high a few months ago, so she told me I have to reduce the z. I told her its not the zyprexa, a decade ago I was taking 10mg z and my triglicerides were down to 7. Thats too low, its just a mater of diet and exercise, and probably to quit drinking which I have been doing to get trigs down. Hopfully I will prove her wrong. Any ways I had a night of heavy drinking 2 days ago and wanted to smoke pot again, so back up on z. I tried geodon several years ago and it did nothing for my psychosis. I was hearing voices thru the walls of my apptment telling me to come over, I would go over and the people would be like, what are you doing here? I was on a very high dose 60mg x5 /day. It also made me diabetic which was blamed on the zyprexa, yes I was still on a low dose z at the time. When I stoped geodon the diabeties went away in 3 months. Also had blurry vision from geodon, which some what went away when off it. But now I need glasses. Yes I still take perphenazine.

jeeze...atypicals are rough. I had a shrink who just didn't prescribe zyprexa. I'm guessing liability issues.

Ever tried one of the very new atypicals? I don't have any experience, but some people swear by them.

Why do I need to try one of the new AAP? Zyprexa works great! Besides can't afford them. Z is free!

I tried Abilify and Geodon with very bad results, cost me my job of 4 years. I'm not going thru that again. I'm sure in few years all the new ones will have something bad about them too. Besides I can't think of one bad side effect from zyprexa. Can't eat with out it can't sleep, go crazy ... Can't even function or work. I was not able to start working untill I got on z. Back in 98. Before I got on z I was constantly ending up in the mental hospital. 1.5 years out of work and half the time in hospital. The other meds they gave me didn't work. Every other time I went off z over the years I was out of work and delusional, stuck in the house and falling down in the shower. Thinking the tv was talking to me. The only med that even gets close to working is the perphenazine, but still can't eat.. Besides I've never taken it with out z, and doubt it could replace it.

I just don't want to be out of work again. Or else I could stay in the house and be delusional all day again. Wouldn't that be fun.

hey man...

...if zyprexa works and you can afford it, go for it, as long as your doc will keep Rx-ing it. Have you ever tried the melt in your mouth tabs? I read somewhere that those have fewer metabolic probs, but I don't know anything about the cost. I'd assume they're generic.

There's a super fish oil Rx on the market...Lovaze or something...anyway, there's a generic now. Its processed, purified fish oil. Might be cheaper on insurance to do that than take drugstore supplements, but I don't know your situation.

Glad the zyprexa works for you.

yeah, ive heard people say its quite effective. Even at the aggregate level, its supposed to be more effective than Risperidone, and therefore more effective than many of the newer (and I would imagine, older as well) AP drugs available.

I'd like to be on it so I can have something to help me sleep, control agitation better, maybe keep bits of pieces of semi-psychosis at bay, but...wow...the weight gain issue looms large, you know? Also, an ex-shrink--she was completely anti-zyprexa, I'm guessing she feared lawsuits--said it can cause metabolic problems absent any weight gain. Is that true, you think? She had a really cool Abilify clipboard and pen, so I'm thinking a drug rep got a hold of her, lol.

Anyway...best of luck to you. Like I wrote to zyprexa, some people say that those zyprexa dissolving tablets cause fewer problems than the normal pills. Also, they say that you can do with lower doses for some reason, which I think sounds odd. Just a thought...
