Posted by Jeroen on June 23, 2014, at 10:31:43

i am propably going to get an MRI of my brains
see how much damage that rotten wisdom teeth did a year ago with an absess, it started @ that time i had an absess, i quickly took an ativan to combat strange symptoms, felt burning sensation in my brain i normally dont have, i just don't know what to do

when i take 2,5 mg ativan the symptoms almost dissapear, but with 1 mg my anxiety and symptoms what i have a year now are much more noticable and unconfortable

I was able to get an MRI of my brain with "Mental Status Changes" diagnosis at an ER. I did this in 2008, it came back normal. I was psychotic at the time. Good luck.

i don't think i can have them anymore because of all the metal in me :(

i would love to see my brain mri. curious... curious me...

i have this idea that i'll be like that person with the smallest brain that they've ever seen. like... most of her frontal lobes / cortical area wasn't there. presumably because of something developmental really early on... what was remarkable was that she was so very normal.. considering. had a management degree and everything.

i expect something like that for me.

haha. i have x-rays of my feet and they are pretty cool for me. i don't know what i'm looking at, either. have the radiology report to go with so trying to see what they see... tis hard... i think mostly because they are intentionally... descriptive. hard to see what might help... waiting lists for hip replacements here... people who can't walk. i'll never get my foot set straight.

psychiatrists often don't do MRIs. They claim to treat mental illnesses (to use NAMI-speak, "brain diseases"), but they rarely examine the brain itself...

Why? If they don't know what they're looking for? There are no studies conclusively linking mental illness to specific abnormalities on an MRI. Even if there were, the treatments would still be the same - meds that are poorly understood and don't always work.

All an MRI will do is identify lesions. Why do you want that? Do you have seizures or symptoms of MS or stroke?

Ordering MRIs for people with mental illness is a complete and utter waste of scarce medical resources.

someone or other said 'it's easy to tell the brains of the schizophrenics. they're the ones that look normal'

they have a hard job figuring out what's wrong on the basis of behavioural data... why think that brain data would be any help whatsover? brain data is only even harder to interpret... might as well have a go at trying to interpret your interpretation of tea leaves..

back pain is similar. apparently there is something like... 80% of mri's show some disk problem. whether there is back pain or not. and then something like 20% of people reporting serious back pain don't have any visible abnormalities on mri. so...

the main worry with giving everyone mri's of their lower back is that you would find all these 'problems' that likely wouldn't result in pain or whatever... all these unnecessary surgeries. all these unnecessary complications arising from these unnecessary surgeries etc...

i noticed a private orthopedic back surgery clinic on the streets of parnell the other day... a private imaging clinic right besides... seemed like a bit of a scamy scam scam to me...

Jeron, what was the outcome? Are you getting an MRI?

I had a cat scan once (I think that was what it was) when in withdrawal from Xanax. I had speech abnormalities and developed a stutter (I don't have a stutter!). I though I had had a stroke. Or something. I felt terrible.

MRI of my back has been done at various levels due to Horrible back pain. Results, fused on own cervical discs, Spinal Stenosis of full Spine, Osteoporosis, Curvature Of Spine both present at birth and a different curve from osteroporosis, bone spurs, none impringing on nerves. But surgery is not an option for me as the neurosurgeon said he would open me up and have to fuse me all the way up my back rendering me with no flextion. So PT and Excercise to avoid surgery. 80% of back surgeries fail or have to be redone. No thank you. I also refused pain meds. Phillipa

had an mri because of the rare side effect called pisa syndrome. "nothing remarkable" after 30 years of pills. It takes a while and is loud, clangy. sounds like a cotton gin.

I had an MRI of my brain before treatment with a psychiatrist. To make sure I didn't have any physical abnormalities in my brain, like a tumor or something. Then they sent me to a psychiatrist. Cause my brain was normal.

Why Jeroen are you getting an MRI?

An abcessc in your mouth is not very likely to have caused an injury to your brain.
