Ive noticed that over the years as well. I bet there is some financial reason for why it is not prescribed as much as the other SSRIs. I do know for many many years it was ONLY FDA approved for OCD and not for depression. I am not sure if it ever even got formal FDA approval for major depression. The fact Luvox was not FDA approved for depression for the first ten plus whatever years of its approval here in the USA, that probably got Luvox off to a bad start as a mainstream SSRI.

It also intensifies many other meds effects so need less of other med as the benzos. Ativan is only one recommended but have taken it with all benzos. Needed higher doses of Ativan. Also intensifies caffeine a lot they say. Phillipa

Well...I briefly tried low dose luvox. I felt weird. Too Serontin-ey for some people, I think. I felt too tranquilized and apathetic. It doesn't play nice with a lot of other drugs. I don't think it was pushed hard depression and most anxiety disorders. Sedating.Who knows, really? I think Luvox is pre-Prozac, European originally...American docs are very ethnocentric in their Rx habits. Look at Remeron. Very effective, usually tolerable, plays nicely with other drugs (including other AD drugs)...not very popular in the US :-(
Also, the market changed *after* Prozac. A lot of what used to be called "anxiety" was later called "depression," as more and more docs tried to use sri drugs instead of benzos (with not so stellar results over the long haul, btw).
So...I dunno. I didn't much care for luvox. I have ocd-ish tendencies, but I don't like sri drugs, either. I'm on Tofranil now, and its remarkably effective.

I am actually on luvox cr and it has been a lifesaver. It helped my fear of flying/agoraphobia tremendously. I went from having panic attacks a few times a week in my own "comfort zone" to be able to travel the world. It is very sedating though. I am current trying to wean off it and cross taper onto brintellix. It's a tough medication to come off

Tommy only med I've never been able to get off of. Even the 25mg I now take. The time a pdoc took me off it at this dose and substituted with high doses of Xanax xr for a week no sleep, then up to 8mg of Ativan same. So was told to go back on it and here I stay on 25mg with a mere 7.5mg of valium & .5mg of Xanax taken at bedtime. Someone said there is a link to melatonin in luvox. Not sure if true or not.
