Nortriptyline-Energizing?

Posted by BrainDamage on January 7, 2014, at 9:28:58

Hi

I wanted to here about peoples experiences with Nortriptyline
Was did they find It Energizing, Sedating or Neutral?

Was the energy affect dose dependent?
I read that it is more energizing at higher doses

I'm on Nardil & find it very fatiguing
Most stimulants make the anxiety worse, rather defeating the object of being on it in the first place!
I've already been overdoing it on the Benzo's

Hi...well you will likely get a wide range of answers. Many seem to be good, in favour of Nortriptyline with an maoi. I personally found (minus the maoi) that nortriptyline was wayyy too noradrenic. I am now trying clomipramine, but know you can't mix with maoi's. Scott (SLS) on this board is quite knowledgeable on using Nortriptyline with an maoi. Try to contact him.

Best,
Jay

I found nortriptyline to be sedating in the beginning. I felt tired and weak walking at first (seemed like orthostatic hypotension just a bit). After a few days I adjusted and felt normal.

I felt very motivated and can't remember a depressed or anxious moment on it. It was a very good drug despite some palpitations.

I think mileage varies widely with nortriptyline. For me it was sort of neutral, maybe felt slightly energizing at times and slightly sedating at other times. I never got over 20mg though so I am probably not a good example.
My blood pressure is low. On nortriptyline it was lower and I got a slight bit of dizziness sometimes. Since you are already on a med that causes low blood pressure and dizziness, might have to be cautious and just be aware.
