Generic Effexor XR

Had a consult with a new pdoc who says that the only company of generic Effexor XR that she would recommend is Greenstone. What are you experiences with different generic brands of venlafaxine extended release?

The excipients in different medications certainly can give different pharmacokinetic profiles. Wonder how much this affects study results?

The pharmacokinetic profiles of extended release generics may differ slightly from the original brand. For most drugs, this is unimportant, but for venlafaxine, it may be noticeable in some patients.... This is because venlafaxine has a very short half-life and small drops in blood levels may lead to withdrawal symptoms.

Greenstone is a subsidiary of Pfizer, so the Greenstone venlafaxine XL is highly likely to be the exact same product as Effexor XR (in a different box).

The generics versions should be fine if you take the same one all the time. If you keep switching from one to another, you may notice a difference if you are 'med sensitive'. Personally, I didn't notice a difference, but I am not sensitive to small changes in SSRI/SNRI blood levels. It's very individual.
