Is Nardil Still Effective

Posted by babbler20 on October 14, 2013, at 21:00:14

Hi, I've heard that the coating on Nardil was recently changed and that it is no longer effective. Can someone share their recent experience with Nardil with me?

Babbler20,

Nardil underwent a formulation change pretty much exactly 10 years ago, back in 2003. Among the inactive ingredients that were changed were those that are used to coat the Nardil tablets.

After Pfizer changed Nardil's formulation, some patients taking the medication noticed what seemed to be changes in its effectiveness and the emergence of new side effects. At least some of these individuals went online to write about their experiences and discovered that there were others having similar problems. One Web site that attracted a large number of individuals having problems with Nardil was The Anxiety Community. It has been estimated that more than 150 patients who were taking Nardil and having problems with it participated in Nardil-related discussions on The Anxiety Community and/or signed up to receive updates from those who oversaw Nardil-related activism efforts. This number of patients, in my opinion, is not insignificant, but at the same time, I think it's hard to tell based on anecdotal reports exactly what percentage of patients taking Nardil experienced problems following the formulation change. Just as I've heard from those who experienced major problems with Nardil after the formulation change, I've also heard from others who were taking Nardil back in 2003 who noticed no difference after the formulation was changed. So, how much did the Nardil formulation change affect the medication's effectiveness? The answer, I think, is a matter of perspective that comes down to individual differences in the way people react to medications.

If I were taking Nardil for the first time, I would just take the current film-coated tablets and see what kind of response emerges. Actually, that's what I did when I first took Nardil, although I was taking the film-coated tablets made for the Australian market instead of those made for the American market. The improvements in my symptoms that I noticed when I took this version of Nardil didn't seem to last for more than two weeks, so I eventually tried different strategies to try to improve the medication's performance. None of these strategies ultimately worked out for me, even though I seemed to notice more therapeutic benefits for longer with fewer side effects when I put the contents of my Nardil tablets into enteric capsules.

Even though I think that the formulation change likely affected the way Nardil affects at least some individuals, I wouldn't say that the current version of the medication is ineffective. A long-time poster here named Jedi always seemed to respond well to Nardil, which I believed he took alongside clonazepam. Likewise, a newer poster named Topdog has recently reported experiencing good results with Nardil. Nardil still does seem to work well for some individuals, so if I were trying the medication again for the first time, I would go into it with at least some degree of optimism.

T.

Thank you so much for responding. That certainly gives me some hope that it may be an effective treatment for me.

The curent Nardil is still effective for me - indeed it has turned my life around, saved me from either suicide or a life living as a hermit on disability

Started feeling better within a week of taking it

I very much doubt it is a placebo effect as it has been maintained for months, and i had failed many (most?) antidepressants before trying Nardil

I know a guy who's benefiting from the 'new' Nardil formulation.

Thanks for your input everyone. Is sleep possible for Nardil users?
