Viibryd suggested for AD + ADD?

Posted by Sheilac on August 29, 2013, at 13:13:42

Doc suggested starting a low dose of viibryd. She also mentioned trying a tiny dose of Adderall.

But, for now, she wants me to stay on Buspar & take 5mg of Viibryd.

Not crazy about trying this. I wonder if I shouldn't just go back and take a tiny dose of Effexor or half dose of Pristiq.

I just know that antidepressants seem to help my ADD.

So maybe this new, overpriced viibryd will help. I'm just wondering how freakin different viibryd can really be from other meds? Will I get more norepinephrine?

I should mention....

My regular MD thinks I'm ADD and need dopamine. SHE really wants me to take 150mg of Effexor and low dose Adderall.

If I were to pop 150mg of Effexor I would probably be nauseous all day.

For now, I'm going to try the pdoc way, but I wonder if my family doc might not be right?

Thoughts? Klonopin,Effexor & Adderall are all generic and cheap.

It costs HOW MUCH!

I just found out WITH insurance it will cost me $80 a month for Viibryd.

This is ridiculous!

Am I really doing to right thing by trying this crazy, overpriced med?

Should I go with what my regular MD said and just try low dose Adderall along with Klonopin and Buspar? These would be cheap options.

Unless Viibryd is a freakin miracle drug all in itself, I don't know if I even want to try to afford.

why would your dr, give you viibryd and buspar as viibryd has an ingredient I believe similar to buspar...viibryd starts at 10 mg ...does he/she know what they are doing

I'd forget about the Effexor and go for a low, but effective, dose of either Adderall or some other stimulant (vyvanse is new and supposed to be very smooth and long-lasting).

AD drugs aren't that great.

How about 50mg Pristiq + Buspar?

Why is your doctor suggesting Viibryd?

Options - higher Buspar, etc.

I guess in the past I did well with my ADD using an antidepressant. But her first thought was to use a low dose of Adderall.

Adderall can tend to make me feel irritable, so I don't know how to handle the irritability from that, unless I make sure and take Klonopin as soon as the irritability hits.

I'm afraid of taking an expensive med right now, and I'm afraid of taking a stimulant.

We had discussed going up on the Buspar, and if it causes irritability with low dose Adderall, using a low dose of Trileptal.

So many options!

why not try Cymbalta....similar to Effexor,,serotonin/noreph from the start....no need to adjust dose like Effexor to get the noreph.

have you used cymbalta

She wants me to start out at only 5mg of Viibryd a day.

I told her 20mg of Buspar was making me irritable and she asked if I was still taking Trileptal and I told her no - she said I might need to go back to a low dose of that.

Then she mentioned adding a low dose of Ritalin - but I hate Ritalin and Vyvanse NEVER wears off me, so she suggested going back to a low dose of Adderall.

I have to admit, I feel like Buspar has helped the depression more than the anxiety. And if I don't take Buspar in the afternoon, I actually have anxiety in the morning. I love the weight neutralness of Buspar. It just seems like they need to make it in a higher dose with an extended release!

I'm afraid "getting hooked" on ADs again. I hate the withdrawal of those darn drugs.

But, I also hate the irritability and mood changes that come with stimulants.

Not sure what the best course of action is. It sounds like either way, if I take an AD or a stimulant, I will need a mood stabilizer I guess.

And another thing!

Why is it that Buspar - prescribed FOR anxiety, CAUSES anxiety?! Cutting out the evening Buspar has caused morning anxiety. Maybe that's why my doc asked if I was still taking Trileptal.

This is a weird drug. I wake up in the morning and have to take a Klonopin due to being ON Buspar.

Perhaps the anxiety is causes has made me more alert, and in a backwards way it has somehow helped my depression, but when it wears off, the anxiety it leaves me with is terrible!

But if I stop Buspar, I'm left with nothing. I have Klonopin, and Trileptal if I need it, but what about the depression and ADD?

Very weird med. I'm afraid Viibryd will be another Buspar - just $80 more expensive!

My family doc really feels that I need to address my depression & ADD. Which is why she suggested an AD along with going back to a low dose of Adderall.

I'm not sure what to do.

Could the anxiety you experience from the buspar if you feel it only lasts a short period of time be from withdrawal? I don't know just speculating? Phillipa

Buspar, Viibryd anxiety depression

Yes, Phillipa, I do wonder if the morning anxiety I feel is because the Buspar from the night before has worn off.

I have never in my life woke up with anxiety. Usually, I experience anxiety DUE to something.

I think in the case of Buspar, it wears off so fast it leaves me anxious. Stupid drug. Good for depression, bad for anxiety in my case.

I'm wondering if Viibryd would be a more longer acting Buspar in a way? If so, that could be good.

I can't keep taking Buspar only to have to pop a Klonopin to get out of bed!

One pill to make the side effects of another go away? Wouldn't you be better of with just a lower dose of a benzo? Phillipa

5 mg of Viibryd? What's the point of that?

Antidepressants don't help with your ADHD. They help with the loss of concentration due to your depression.

Viibryd will not boost norepenephrine in any significant matter. Viibryd is an SSRI with added 5ht1a agonism.

I don't really know what the point of only 5mg is. I guess she just wanted me to start slow. I'm not really sure I like taking an SSRI.

Not sure if it will help the ADD.

I just wonder if I shouldn't just take Buspar and Klonopin.

I know she will up my viibryd to 10mg next time. But it's causing terrible gas and bloating -really painful and embarrassing.

Not sure what the answer is.

Do I stay with viibyrd longer and hope the stomach issues go away? Will the gastro issues go away? Ugh. Or just go back to Buspar?

an ssri will help with the concentration difficulties brought on by depression.

it will do nothing for your adhd.

"I just wonder if I shouldn't just take Buspar and Klonopin.". does the buspar help?

The stomach issues should go away.

Thanks. Right now my doc wants me to be on both low dose Buspar and low dose viibryrd. Weird.

The Viibyrd does help with my agitation, so I guess I can stick it out and see if the tummy trouble goes away.

How have you done on Viibyrd? Taking any other meds?
