replacements for amphetamine

Posted by rjlockhart37 on August 5, 2013, at 14:54:24

its been 5 since now i got ripped off dexamphetamine, and now i am on a heavy lamictal and zyprexa....with prozac dose... its really silly because i think what's going on is the amphetamines are being avoided and there using others that calm the mind down, but it causes me to really be spaced out, passive, and also kinda mellow, not high strung....

this combo....Prozac 60mg, Lamotragine 400mg...Nuvigil, its a wierd combo and really i dsiagree with this....its something someone in a psych hospital would take with extreme mood disorders....but the lamictal was given for depression and calming the firing down in the brain...and also zyprexa because of disorganized thoughts at times....

really ... this is hard... heavy doses of psychiatric meds, to replace amphetamine...

anyone have a say so?

The medications you are on are indicative of someone that has mood issues with cycling? So perhaps your doctor was afraid of aggravating the cycling with amphetamine or causing manic type symptoms?

If you really feel like those aren't your issues maybe it's time to fire your doctor.

Unfortunately, lamotrigine usually doesn't work to control mania or reduce rapid cycling. It has shown more efficacy in treating bipolar depression. Some people feel that lamotrigine reduces their anxiety and hyperarousal, though.

Scott,
I thought lamictal was the gold standard for rapid cycling? Although rapid cycling is pretty treatment resistant (as i know).

I just read a report from the NIMH, NIH. Lamictal is ineffective for rapid cycling. This represents a reversal of opinion for them.

Interesting. Thanks Scott! (Unfortunately all of the other stabilizers make me more depressed)
