Geodon weight gain

Posted by Sheilac on August 1, 2013, at 7:54:29

I've gained weight on all the atypical antipsychotics. I can't take antidepressants, so I've tried the AAPs. They work great for depression.

After my recent weight gain of 20 lbs this year on Geodon (and its heart warnings), I'm wondering if I shouldn't try a tiny dose of Lamictal yet again. Does Lamictal have the same heart warnings - QT issues, etc. ? I tend to have low blood pressure so I don't want to screw up my heart.

My family doc wanted me to try phentermine to take off the weight. It helps with the appetite, but does nothing for depression. Adderall makes me irritable and a little manic happy.

I recently had a really bad experience with being so sleepy I couldn't be woken up in the middle of the night for an emergency.

I was taking 40mg Geodon and 300mg Trileptal along with 3mg Melatonin. The Geodon knocks me out.

Maybe trying a low dose of Lamictal again would lift my depression. It never helped my stability - Trileptal does that. But without anything to help depression, Trileptal makes my depression worse.

Any thoughts? Phentermine is not the answer.

It sounds like you need to try a new pdoc. I sounds like so far nothing has really worked for you. Do you have a firm diagnosis? Phillipa

Yes, I've been told I'm more BPII. Usually, I'm depressed, but certain meds (adderall, caffeine, steriods, etc.) can make me hyper and irritable.

My doc is more open to me using Lamictal for my depression. I have stopped drinking coffee in the morning and that has helped a lot with the moods (but I miss it).

My family doc has brought up metformin, but when I take it I get terrible leg cramps and gastro problems.

Life would be much easier if I could just pop a prozac.

I guess I'll try the low dose Lamictal for depression and hope for no increase in hunger.
