Anxiety no better - feel like I'm on the edge

of the abyss. When I saw the shrink, she suggested dropping the Zoloft (which had done nothing) and substituting mirtazapine. I'm now taking 45mg at night and it has done very little (sleeping a bit better because of the antihistamine drowsiness, but the anxiety is the same) and I feel like I'm starting to lose my grip. Performance at work has suffered, and I'm starting to get agrophobic about going to work.

My doc wants to take a softly softly approach, but I am getting desperate and need relief now.

Nardil seems to be the drug of last resort for me, because 1. MAOI's are the only drugs I haven't tried and 2. it has an effect on GABA as well as its antidepressant actions.

I decided after some thought that as I was in danger of losing all the gains I had made over the past 3 years and reverting to my previous state, so I took a decision that might be considered rash or even stupid and obtained a months worth of Nardil from a safe grey market source. I'm starting to wind back to mirtazapine so that when the Nardil arrives in the post I can get right on it.

Current meds are

Edronax 4mg bd
Xanax 1mg tid
Mirtazapine 45mg qhs
Risperidone 1mg qhs

I plan on this becoming

Edronax 4mg bd
Nardil 30mg bd
Xanax 1mg tid
Risperidone 1mg qhs

I have the MAIO diet printed out and am fully aware of the drugs I have to avoid.

Wish me luck!

Good luck, Jono. I hope that you will get at least some relief from your anxiety with the Nardil that you ordered, if you do end up taking it.

My pdoc suggested tofranil to me at the beginning of my treatment. She has had very good response with stubborn anxiety from it. I declined it in favor of klonopin, zoloft, remeron. This combo worked for me. Good luck.

Good luck!

Would you consider performing a quick experiment to ascertain the effects that reboxetine has on you - good or bad? I still worry that it might be making your anxiety worse.

I would consider discontinuing Reboxetine while starting Nardil .. MAOIs can be really NE-ergic at first, though that supposedly drops off with time. I found Nardil exacerbated anxiety a lot at the beginning of treatment, though I wasn't on any concurrent benzos and didn't stick it out to see if the side-effects would diminish ..

Only 1mg of Xanax? I'm so sorry you are having to white-knuckle it. Good luck to you.

Hi Scott

In the past I have tried switching from reboxetine to nortriptyline in the hope that it might help the anxiety, but there has been little difference, and as reboxetine has less side effects, I have ended up going back to that.

Noradrenalin reuptake inhibitors (reboxetine, bupropion, nortriptyline) have always been the only drugs that helped my depression, so I feel that there needs to be oen of them somwhere in the mix.

"I have personally seen Nardil completely wipe out panic attacks in someone."

Thats what I'm hopeing for Scott, a dramatic reduction in the panic attacks, anticipatory anxiety, generalised anxiety, and the continual pressure to engage in avoidant or agrophobic beheivior.

The best result would be to be able to wind back the benzos, so that instead of taking them regularly three times a day, I am just taking a pill when I fel the need

Anyway, I'm not going to build any castles in the sky, just going to wait for my package to arrive from America and give the Nardil (actualy Garvis Phenelzine Tablets USP) a red hot try

30mg Nardil isn't enough in most cases to get a therapeutic response. Perhaps an insignificant few percent of the population might be able to respond to such a dose, but personally i feel 45mg is minimum. Also, phenelzine is a slow inhibitor of MAO, which means the response is usually delayed by at least 4 weeks. Which means you most likely need more than a months supply, and buying meds on the grey market is never reliable.

I have decided that 4 weeks might not be enough for an adequate trial, so I'm going to order another 4 weeks worth
