We MUST think of a better term than 'Holiday'

Posted by ChicagoKat on January 22, 2013, at 9:15:05

Because being off your stims or whatever so they'll work for you again is certainly nothing like a Holiday, a term which evokes happy, sunny beaches.

I'm feeling very non-creative today, probably b/c I am on one such 'holiday'; all I can come up with is Necessary Evil. Anyone got any better ideas?

Kat Holiday means fun to me. I've not been taken off a med to help it work again. Is it only used for stimulants? Phillipa

I say "necessary evil" as well. It must be done,so think of the end, not the beginning!

When I was starting on stims after years of not taking them I told my doc that I knew people that took weekends off of them, etc.
He said why would you do that?!! He said it like taking them everyday is a no brainer. I never take holidays and I don't think I need to.

For modafinil it is probably a good idea, due to autoinduction of an enzyme, breaking it down faster.

Regarding the OT; hiatus?

This is the last paragraph of a Medscape article talking about this.

Nothing replaces sound clinical judgment. The vicissitudes of clinical practice usually preclude algorithmic solutions. Is there, then, a definitive conclusion regarding medication holidays? Not at present. Given the evidence to date, the most conservative strategy, ie, every-day treatment, is likely to yield the best outcomes.

I suggest you call it the "Super Happy Lou Pilder Med-free antisemitic Salvation Period."

Marines have a nickname for the Marine Corps: The Suck. Might work in this instance, as well.
