Risperdal for anxiety?

Posted by LucidDreamer on January 6, 2013, at 23:56:03

Anyone here take Risperdal for anxiety? If so at what dosage does it help you, and how are the side effects? I'm going with Risperdal for my anxiety because supposedly it causes less weight gain than Zyprexa. I'm really interested to hear your experiences with Risperdal. Thank you!

I take risperidone for anxiety and depression, 1mg at bedtime.

Side effects were limited to some drowsiness in the early days, no significant weight gain, and nothing else to report

I have found it very effective.

Thank you so much for our input. That encourages me. Also did you experience any memory problems and/ or emotional numbness/flatness? If so how bad? Thanks again!

No, no memory problems or emotional blunting at all, just a faaling of calm confidence.

I started off at 1mg at night because i was impatient, but in hindsite, it would have been better to have started off at 0.25mg for 2-3 nights, then 0.5mg for 2-3 nights, then 1mg at night.

I took Risperdal for anxiety once, and ended up taking Risperdal FOR anxiety, if you know what I mean.

I know what you mean. I took for the first time last night and I think I can still feel its effects right now (3:30 pm). Did it make you emotionally numb? Also did it affect your memory?

It can make you feel a bit doped for the first few days - dont abandon it based on how you feel on day 1.

At low doseages (1mg or less) risperidone mainly blocks the 5HT2A and C receptors, so shouldnt cause flattend emotions etc

What dose are you taking?

I'm taking 1mg. Do you know at what dosage it might blunt emotions? Also have you taken or know anyone who's taken 1mg and have that dosage be effective? Thanks!

I take 1mg and get no emotional blunting - I'd think that you'd have to be into the 4mg range before that sort of stuff kicked in

I have found 1mg very effective for residual anxiety and depression, it helps me immensly, and iwouldnt be without it.
