Emsam Patch won't stay on. Any Suggestions?

Posted by Trace206 on December 21, 2012, at 16:51:11

Hi, I recently started using the Emsam (selegiline transdermal) and I follow all the instructions, I put the patch on dry clean skin and it will stay on for about 18 hours then it will start to fall off. there might be like parts of the patch still sticking to my skin but the other areas of the patch will not stick back on even if I try to press it back on my skin. It just isn't sticky anymore!

Has anyone had the same problem and does anyone have any advise on what I can do to make this stay on?

ALSO I know that once I start to get my depression under control I will start going back to gym and working out regularly which will mean I will be sweating like heck. I don't know if this means the patch will stay on or come off?

Has anyone had success working out and wearing this patch and having it stay on?

Could you put the patch on the upper arm or leg and use a piece of "tubigrip" tube bandage over it to hold it firmly in place?

i found that my upper arms is where the patch will stay on the longest however I can't rotate it left arm, right arm, every other day because it will irritate my skin.

I've tried every area that the Medication guide says I can put the patch on and I didn't see the Shoulders as an area, Will it still work if I put it on my shoulders?

It doesn't matter where on your body you put it, as long as it stays put. But why not just use oral selegiline? Ensam is more expensive and, once you go above 6mg, it has just the same food and drug precautions as other MAOIs.

Rotate it thus

*upper left arm inside
*upper left arm outside

*upper right arm inside
*upper right arm outside

*upper left leg outside
*upper left leg inside

*upper right leg inside
*upper right leg outside

and cover with Tubigrip to hold it firmly in place

I occasionally have the problem that they don't stick, more often after a shower than after I"ve exercised.

I tape around the edges in a few places, with a tape called hypafix, but any medical tape would do. Hypafix is expensive, but I don't use much at any time, and it comes off fairly easily, unless there's hair on the skin. So I would use it where you don't have much hair, or shave where you plan to use it.

It works perfectly for me. On days when the patch isn't sticking well, I use it first thing; other days, I put it on later.
