Anyone ever bump their head and...

Posted by schleprock on November 11, 2012, at 19:25:11

About two days ago I hanged my head on an open freezer door (mostly plastic, I think.) Immediately following I was struck with a sudden increase in my level of anxiety\depression that had otherwise been stable for about a month (along with the pain, of course, and perhaps some slightly blurry vision.) Now I can't say whether this is a concussion or not (if it, then it should be extremely mild), but I have read that depression is a common symptom of concussions, and that concussions can screw up your neurotransmitters.

What's strange is that on occasion (and even recently) I've had similar accidents that were due to various conditions much more painful, but this is the first time I've bumped my head and began feeling psychological symptoms. What may be a factor is that this time I think my head may have been facing downward, resulting in a strike to the back of the head (at least that's where it's sore), when on the other occasions the top of my head was struck. Would this factor make a concussion (with depressive symptoms) more likely (due to the part of the brain potentially struck, and stuff to do with gravity)?

Has this ever happened to anybody else? It's been two days and I still fell a bit down.

I think anxiety like "oh no what happened and it hurts" would be a natural reaction. Since you didn't lose consciousness I don't think concussion but definitely anxiety provoking. Could pain if still hurts be depressing? Phillipa

yea...i was working somewhere a couple months ago and was under a cabinet and stood up and hit the tip really hard...alot of blood on my head and got dizzi for about 5 min. But really, minor hits i don't think need medical stuff....but still a CAT scan would check it out for any damage.

I've hit my head many times, but im already so disorganized in my thinking maybe it hit it back in place..lol
