SAD

Posted by brynb on November 4, 2012, at 16:28:08

Does anyone here suffer from SAD (on top of all the other diagnoses)?

I can't handle daylight savings--I get a sinking pit in my stomach when it gets dark early. I'm also in such a funk right now, this just adds insult to injury.

I'm not a fan of APs, but my pdoc phoned in five days of Zyprexa until I see him. I feel awful and my prn Valium isn't doing much for my anxiety. I know Zyprexa works fast, so I figured I'd take it for a few days to just get by.

Does anyone else suffer from SAD? Or use Zyprexa in an emergency situation? My pdoc gave me 5 mg--how soon will it help?

Thanks in advance,
b

seasonal affective disorder....no i don't have but i do what it is....wellbutrin is used sometimes in these cases...but wellbutrin is known for causing anxiety in some people, its the NE increase that it has. A stimulant maybe like focalin or an offlabel one like Provigil which I think would really help....still i feel like all these suggestions are worthless because im not the doctor.

Emergency zyprexa...you should of been prescibed 20mg...that's what they use when I went to JPS in fort worth when I thought I was going crazy...20mg will definetly relieve the minds thoughts...it numbs it. But still you sleep alot on it. Ask your doctor to slowly move it up...like say its not working but you want to stay on it and find the correct dose. That should maybe take care of it.

hang in there..

Brynb I hate daylight savings time. Have worried about it all this month How will I get out to try and excercise. And in the dark who wants to? Not being a morning person I just can't early in day. Can't advise on zyprexa. Just know my valium doesn't work anymore. Phillipa

Thanks, rj.

Stims generally make me too anxious and jittery, same thing w/Wellbutrin and most similar ADs.

I took 10 mg of Zyprexa last night. I slept a lot, but it hasn't helped my mood. Actually, I feel more depressed this morning.

Thanks again.

I know, benzos have lost their potency for me, and my pdoc doesn't like me taking them anyway. If I were in a better place I'd be better equipped to handle it.

Just waiting it out until I see my pdoc. It's a challenge.

Thanks, Phillipa.

I don't have SAD, but I've read that bright light therapy -- through the ears -- works well to treat it. Your brain is more responsive to light that enters the ears than it is to light that enters through the eyes. The Valkee is a device that supplies light to the ears.

Thanks, Hugh. I looked at the link and it seems really interesting. It definitely seems worth trying. Do have experience with light therapy? I've hear that it's useful for depression in general.

Even though I don't have SAD, I bought a blue light device several years ago, hoping it would improve my insomnia by resetting my circadian rhythms. I can't say it helped. But I did notice that if I used it too long, it would make me feel tired. Not sleepy tired, but just gross, worn out tired. But a lot of people find light therapy energizing.
