Two months on minocycline

Posted by Emme_v2 on October 7, 2012, at 18:33:41

Still working.....

The goals of adding the mino were to 1) bring me further into remission, and 2) see if I could ditch Abilify.

I tried to discontinue Abilify and ended up somewhere down around the 9th circle of hell. But I did not abandon hope....

I put the Abilify back and felt better. I am on a much lower dose of Abilify than I've been able to get away with in the past. Clearly the mino is doing its job. My strategy now is a much slower taper off the Abilify. I'm really stretching out the reduction, and it seems to be going better. And this while I'm trying very hard to keep my head above water with an intense workload right now. So I'm still pretty pleased with the whole minocycline experience.

I also take Lamictal. Major depressive disorder.

I think there might be some sort of magic trifecta with the Lamictal, Abilify, and minocycline. However, I want to lose the Abilify and it is possible I will be able to do it and stay fairly well. We'll see how the next month goes.

Assuming that the lamictal or is it the ambilify that creates the antidepessant? This Is One of The Combos That Seems To Be Really Doing Well. Congrats Again!!!

Thanks. The Lamictal alone is partially effective. It seems to require augmentation. Abilify was a good add-on for quite a while. Now the minocycline seems to be working well with Lamictal (Scott posted info a couple of months back about why minocycline may boost the effectiveness of Lamictal).

That is good news! And really helpful for the rest of us who might want to try it in the future. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Raisinb! What's really nice about the minocycline is that not only does it seem to be helping my particular package of symptoms, it feels clean. I'm really not having any side effects at this point.
