parnate drug interactions

Posted by alchemy on September 24, 2012, at 14:32:10

I have not tried parnate. Emsam made me more depressed. Do u think that this has any indications to whether or not i would respond? But to withdraw from my meds safely would take months. Can i take any of these: lamictal, wellbutrin, celexa, xanax, synthroid?
Sorry that i am not searching more. I am at work now and needing hope.

Emsam made me feel worse. Panate has positive effects.

You cannot take Celexa. The others are okay.

Thank you Scott. I didn't realize that Parnate is often used for hard cases (or so they say). Did you find that it helped with motivation and/or mood then? When you say you didn't have a good response from Emsam, did it worsen your mood?

I think I will miserably need to withdraw from ritalin. A few weeks ago my dr. thought I should try taking it consistently because it has been the only thing that has ever helped. But I can "crash" even within 3 hours of the long-acting kind.

I don't think you can take Wellbutrin either, can you?

I just googled wellbutrin with parnate and yes it's contraindicated as a combination. Phillipa

Apparently, it can be done safely, despite all of the alarmist contraindications that abound. I had no trouble combining Parnate and Wellbutrin.

I think Welbutrin is OK - Dr Ken Gillman of psychotropical.com specificaly recomends tranylcypromine + bupropion as a "last resort" treatment

There is a lot of misinfomation out there - wikipedia lists Parnate/Nardil plus Nortriptyline as absolutly contraindicated, despite it having been sucsessfuly used for several decades in resistant depression

Alchemy, we have talked a lot about MAOIs and washouts, but I just noticed this post just now and I wanted to tell you that I have tried Ensam too and it made me feel really agitated and terrible. I think it's a terrible drug; it reversibly binds to MAO-B, when it's really the MAO-A effects that are positive. So don't let your negative experience with Ensam affect your decision to go through the washout with me and try Parnate. All my best,
Kat

Of course, some people report having success using Emsam for depression. Personally, I think this represents a minority. Emsam made my depression worse and produced anxiety.

Well said.

I imagine some people need a little MAO-B inhibition. But, you are basically right.

:-)

I agree. Parnate works for me. Emsam does not.
