Harder to get appointments, meds, therapist....

Posted by former poster on September 14, 2012, at 13:20:35

Every time I call to make an appointment with a psychiatrist, therapist or just a GP. It's a long uphill battle. 3 months is the waiting time. I just called today. December is my appt. I know what will happen. There will be a snow storm, roads will be closed, my car will break down, or I will just forget to look at the calendar that day and I'm sure you know the rest.....

What area of the country are you in? Three months seems ridiculous. Are you limited by insurance restrictions? I'd keep making calls until you find someone who can see you sooner. I don't know how it is where you are, but whenever I have tried to search for someone new, I usually can find a pdoc or therapist who can see me within the next few weeks.

Is the same here. With the new healthcare many doctors are leaving private practices or teaming up to work in hospitals under the hospital. Phillipa

I'm located in the midwest, close to Canada. Low population. This area has a high suicide rate. I think part of the problem is that professionals don't like to live here.

I live in Darwin, in the tropical north of Australia, we have problems attracting medical specialists here as well, psychiatrists are in short supply, and tend to be forced to spend most of their time dealing with psychotic patients, people like me at the neurotic end of the spectrum have to make do wit GP's in the main
