I Wonder.......

...if, in a similar vein to this board, there are websites in which cancer patients discuss fine-tuning their chemotherapy coctails. Do oncologists, like psychopharmacologists, actually go along with their patients' suggestions for what and how much goes into their chemo?

Yes I think there are discussion boards for most all diseases and docs do discuss cancer treatments with their patients. They colloborate and come to a decision. It's a team approach of the caretakers and patient. Why do you ask? Phillipa

Phillipa,
You wrote,[...docs do discuss cancer treatments with their paitients. They collaborate and come to a decision...].
Now I would think that Mr. Pipik had in mind when he posted about cancer treatment that Mr. Pipik was referring to {chemotherapy} in particulafr as I read the grammatical structure of Mr. Pipik's post.
Now as I see that Mr. Pipik's post has in it a parallel as to if cancer treatment in relation to chemotherapy is deceided upon by input from the paitient. This is different from deceiding on {which} type of treatment such as surgery, chemotherpy, drugs, radiation and other treatments.
Now in particular, Mr. Pipik points out that he is concerned about that in this forum he points out that there are posters putting forth the possibility of one picking their own drug to have the prescriber print on his pad. Now that could raise a lot of issues as to the issue of who is picking the drug. Now if the paitient picks the drug, then the prescriber is a secondary person in the treatment plan. If so, then should not the prescriber pay the paitient for the visit?
I am unsure as to what you are wanting to mean to Mr. Pipik. Perhaps you could post a link to a site where cancer patients tell the doctor what chemicals are to be used in the chemotherapy. If you could post one of those, then I could have the opportunity to post my response here.
Lou
