Since It Seems Meds More + More Don't Work Bandaid

Posted by Phillipa on July 25, 2012, at 12:10:21

Seems everyday when get a nursing newsletter another med has been pulled from the market from unexpected or dangerous side effects. What are we doing to ourselves by taking them? Even physical conditions serious ones docs are advising quality of life first meaning as example if cancer skip the med and live a bit less without life altering side effects. Is this to save the government & insurance companies money? Or in truth is there fact in it. I'm not claiming to know. Just curious to see what others think. As in honesty am beginning to see docs more as a liablility and those that stay away from docs do better. I don't know do you? Phillipa

Too many variables for a definitive answer. Uncle Sam and Big Business screw us 24/7, anyway, so whether or not there is a conscious effort on the part of the gov. or the insurance industry to save money by advising people to stop taking medicine is a moot point, even if we could know for sure. Personal responsibility, as you alluded to, is the most important consideration. How does one, personally, judge quality of life? Is quality of life more important to you than quantity of life? Some people may value quantity more highly so that they can spend as much time as possible with loved ones, even if they're ill. Others would rather cut their losses as soon as the ride stops being fun or, at least, fulfilling. Medications can do, and have done, amazing things for quality of life. But there are no guarantees in life, a fact that makes individual choice and responsibility both a blessing and a scary place to be, at times.

I agree. You have to find the combination that helps you feel-not high but good and sometimes things stop working and you have to find something else. I been at this a long time we always find something else that works.
