Viibryd - Day 3

Posted by UGottaHaveHope on July 7, 2012, at 3:13:24

Im taking a Viibryd, a new SSRI I cant really find out much information about, therefore I'm going to document this in hopes of helping others. Im taking it for Anxiety and Depression. This is not a pure trial because I already take Seroquel 50mg and Xanax XR 2mg at bedtime for sleep.

DAY 1
Took first pill and had stomach ache within 15 minutes (common side effect)

DAY 2
Slept 5 hours (rather than 8)
Took pill with food and stomach ache within 15 minutes

DAY 3
Slept 5 hours (this sucks)
Feeling a little less depressed

Hi.

Thanks for so generously providing your treatment diary to Psycho-Babble. As an aside, I thought I would mention that, in addition to being a SSRI, Viibyd (vilazodone) is also a serotonin 5-HT1a receptor partial agoninst, which, it is thought, has some anxiolytic properties as well as being an augmenter of antidepressants. However, I don't see that Viibryd has yet earned a reputation for treating GAD. It seems to me that not very many doctors have been using Viibryd. I'm not sure why.

For comorbid GAD and major depressive disorder (MDD), you already know that Nardil is efficacious. Although counterintuitive, Parnate, another MAOI, can also treat GAD, despite its reputation as being stimulating. Two other drugs that come to mind as being effective for comorbid GAD and MDD are Paxil and Effexor. Unfortunately, these drugs are not without side effects.

One step at a time. I am encouraged by the fact that you already responded so well to pharmacotherapy. You would probably respond to Nardil again. I think it was worth trying Viibryd if you were attempting to avoid sexual side effects and weight gain. Parnate might be worth trying for these reasons as well. Paxil is pretty heavy on these side effects. I found Effexor to be rather light on them.

UGHH,
You wrote,[...in hopes of helping others...]
Now that could be to show that the drug has properties and consequences that could give others the educational aspects of the drug to help them make a more informed decision as to take the drug or not.
I am not permitted here to post what I know that is fact concerning the chemical composition and the aspects of those chemicals as to who made them and what they were used for in a particular historical time-period due to prohibitions posted to me here by Mr. Hsiung.
So readers, just remember whose content your goin' to see, and what it could mean to your decision to take this drug or not.
Now when facts are prohibited from being posted here, facts that IMO could mark the difference between a live person and a corpse, then IMO an {indoctrination} could occur. And I say to you, go ahead and read this content here if you want to know about this drug, but I ask you, before you take this drug ,save the last post for me.

Silly correction for the sake of accuracy:

agoninst = agonist (receptor stimulator)

I forgot to mention that Viibryd does not usually produce sexual side effects. My experience with this drug was consistent with this characterization.

Since you did so well before on nardil. Did you mention in your previous thread the side effects that you found intolerable? As I know Jedi has continued to respond despite stopping and going back on to nardil. Wasn't nardil a good med for you? I had thought it had been? I'm guessing viibryd has less severe side effects. I do know that a former poster is well and working again after taking nardil and parnate on prozac. I wonder why one can take MAOI's and then respond to a med they didn't in the past? Thanks for the diary of viibryd. Phillipa

DAY 4
Slept 3 good hours, then rough sleep for about 3 more. This med is working against the Seroquel for the wonderful sleep that I used to get

No stomach ache.

Feeling a little better.

I forgot to say that I'm taking Viibyrd at 10mg for days 1-7, 20mg from days 8-14 and 40mg from days 15-30.

The side effects I've in first 4-5 days are insomnia, night sweats and restless legs.

DAY 5

Had trouble falling asleep with restless legs and night sweats. Slept good for 2 hours, then choppy sleep for 4-5 hours. Really bummed about that because for me, sleep is like the foundation of the day. And with the two meds I'm taking (Seroquel and Xanax XR), it's some of the best sleep you can get.

No stomach ache.

SLS, how do I feel a little better? I guess Viibryd is a little activating with my depression, so I don't feel as down, if that makes sense.

Give its aantidepressant effects at least 3 weeks. It works a little faster than some of the older ADs.
