How Bout Updates on Your Conditions

Posted by Phillipa on June 6, 2012, at 10:33:01

Seriously seems no one knows how others trials are going. As obviously not much posting on here. So many were going through various trials and lots improving a lot so how are you all doing? Thanks Phillipa

I would also love to know how posters are doing, esp success stories.I wish dr.bob could run a poll here for a time and could average by poster's responses or %s what's the best ssri, benzo, etc. for what conditions with fewest side effects. Also incl natural remedies, exercise routines, diff counseling methods, etc.I know everyone is different, this would just be an average of all the responses.Remember how they came out and said zoloft and lexapro were the 2 best antidepressants?Well how did they determine that?

well i just left my 1st appointment with new psychiatrist. well, she's not *completely* new because i had seen her at a crisis stabilization unit before. but i'm glad to be seeing her at her office now. i'm starting on Saphris. not for psychosis or anything like that, but for its antagonism at the 5ht2b receptor.. in hopes that blocking this receptor will have an effect similar to cyproheptadines 5ht2c antagonism that i used to benefit from! and if this doesnt do the trick, we will most likely be puting the cyproheptadine in patch form.

i'm really glad to be seeing this psychiatrist though. she's the 1st "real" doctor i have seen. she even gave me her email for me to contact her. the other psychiatrists you have to speak to them through calling their nurse.

Mine is in flux; I still have bad days, but my symbyax trial is definitely ameliorating my depression in a small way.

I am still taking 30mg parnate plus 200mg lamictal. For the last year I have been mostly good. I think this is partly the meds, partly just coming out of a bad depressive period and partly working really hard on DBT.

I am glad to here that things are going relatively well. Wish others would chime in. I would also like to see some type of poll on meds, therapy etc. Phillipa

I'm not doing very well. I just had another supplement lose its effectiveness. My concentration, hypersomnia, and other symptoms are not improving. I'm thinking of asking my psychiatrist about an SSRI (probably Celexa, because I haven't taken it) when I see him next. I usually experience rapid cycling on SSRIs, but I noticed that adding DHA to kanna (an herbal SRI) stopped the cycling that I was experiencing on that herb. Unfortunately, kanna stopped working, and it did nothing when I tried taking it again recently. Will an SSRI with DHA help me in the long term, or even at all? I guess time will tell, assuming that my psychiatrist will prescribe me an SSRI.

I'm doing OK..... Not great but OK. I stilll think I'm doing better than when I was taking psych drugs buuuuuuuut, and this is a big but.....I still struggle greatly at times.

My GP prescribed Lyrica to help me with my muscle spasms but I think I've noticed that it is affecting me psychologically. I get overly angry at times and I have been visited by a very dark mood recently.

It isn't all the time so I'll take the good with the bad. I had my GP laughing because I was explaining my dark moods and irritability to her and she was asking what was worse... ie: the dark moods and irritability or the muscle spasms.

She still think psychiatry may help me but I'm not quite ready to get back on that merry-go-round. I'm hoping to get my dark moods and muscle spasms to a manageable level. Then, maybe consider psych drugs.

I just don't get it. I never got much out of psychiatric chemicals so I'm staying away for now.

I would like to be as motivated as you, Phillipa! Your tenacity is admirable. I can barely drag myself out the door. My doctor has run some tests to see if testosterone or thyroid are what may be causing me to be so lethargic. We'll find out soon so, hopefully I can get motivated more.

S.O.S just a different day.

I know you don't want psych meds but was reading that Requip can also help Restless Leg Sydrome. Know another using it for MDD. Thanks for the compliment. Hope to hear from you. Phillipa

Ok, cool thread Phillipa.

I have improved globally maybe 25% over the last 3 years, and for random short times I was close to remission. While I have lots of physical issues, depression is still my biggest monster.

Meds are pretty out for me since I've been through most and the moral of the story was basically a worsened prognosis for me. I will be retrying Savella or Amisulpride in a month or so since they were about the only 2 that showed any promise for me. Parnate also, except that while I am treating lyme-like issues with herbs and ABX, I think that ventures too far into the unknown and could be dangerous with Parnate.

Currently:
Doxycycline 200mg, down from 400mg.
Berberine Complex 2 caps TID.
Milk Thistle 125mg.
Rhodiola Rosea 125mg.
Maca Root tiny bit, maybe 1/16th teaspoon.
Strong vitamin/mineral with all sorts of fruits and veggies and mushrooms and stuff in it.
Cod liver oil.
Amino acids complete, experimenting on doses.
Houtyunnia TID (Chinese antimicrobial)

All the above are aimed at antimicrobial, anti inflammation, hormonal support/modulation. The only things there specific for depression are rhodiola and maca.

Things I want to try very soon:

1. Amino acid blood test so as to know which ones I need to boost or which ones need to be crowded out. They are all so much more involved in psychiatric symptoms than I was ever aware.

2. CES. Cranial Electrical Stimulation. A bit pricey, but home units can be purchased, 20 minutes twice a day, and after 60 days if it has not been helpful it can be returned for refund! Cool. This apparently has helped a lot of people because what it does is increase conversion of amino's to neuros, and it stimulates the firing and release of neuros. Meds, herbs, and aminos can increase our neuros, but if they are lacking in electrical activity the depression will not improve much.

3. Need to revamp my basics, for example I am pretty sure I need a lot more Vit C than I am taking now.

4. Retry Savella, retry Amisulpride, find a counterbalance amino to partner with Ritalin.

At least I have some clues.....there are two activities that can improve my mood a lot but only for a short time. Sex. And performing live on stage. That is very helpful because it sort of points at the chemistries involved...catecholamines, endorphins.

This is the end of the thread.
