Hark the herald angels sing. Hearing voices.

Posted by Phil on June 8, 2012, at 7:23:20

What is hark and herald?

For maybe 5 years now sometimes mostly when I'm online like now, I can hear what sounds kind of like a radio announcers voice kind of talking continuously with occasional music or static between stations sounds. It is so faint but I definitely am 'hearing' it. There's no way to hear what's said or played. If I get into something interesting online it may go away. As soon as I'm idle again, it's still going.
I've never mentioned it to a doctor because it's so subtle and non-threatening. Kind of like tinnitus. It's much like a muffled TV sound from another room but there is no TV or other room.
You ever notice at what time your doctor makes a note in your chart, maybe a word or two? When I brought this up he was writing like mad.
It's happened on different meds.
Wiki had info on this and mild auditory hallucinations are sometimes called disturbance.
Too much caffeine can cause it so, who knows?
When I hear it I can keep doing what I'm doing.

Anyone have this?

Yeah, always compliant on meds. This hearing stuff never made me wonder if it was the meds or the disorder. I just kind of thought, well, now I hear stuff. I am curious but that's about it. If the voice starts telling me to let the air out of my tires that another thing.

i have what my pdoc deamed auditory (at at times visual) illusions.
i would hear things but almost always in amongst the sounds of something else.
unless you are in a sound booth there is always ambient room noise, fan, lights, electronics. you may just have such fine hearing that your mind creates known sounds out of unknown sounds.

i too, mostly curious, not scared. sometimes i can hear a 1940's type music playing...kinda funny, not scary only weird.

I will sometimes experience something like that when I'm trying to sleep. I think it's usually when I'm over-tired. I notice it when my head is on the pillow, but when I lift it to try to pinpoint the source of the sound, it goes away. It always sounds like a very faint radio sound. I can never distinguish anything specific. I've never correlated this with any meds. Right now the only psychotropic I'm on is 50 mg of trazadone for sleep.

I've heard the 1940's station too. I've played drums for 40 years and listened to ear splitting music so I have issues with hearing. Which could be the problem too.

We all hear similar stuff. I think there's a lot of this happening and you don't need a mental illness to experience it.
I told my doctor that I read that 5 cups of coffee could cause it. He said, Yeah, or the bipolar. HAHA.

I've heard voices twice in my life.
One called me an *ssh*l*, and the other one was god telling me everything was going to be ok.
It's ironic because I'm an atheist.
Both happened during intense episodes of deja vu.
I'd have times where I couldn't respond.

Unusual, maybe not??

I don't know if it's unusual but they were actually addressing you. That would freak me out.

It did freak me out. I actually didn't tell anyone about it for years, hoping I'd make it through my 20's without getting schizophrenia.
I told the derogatory voice to shutup, but then I turned around to make sure no one saw. There were no Bluetooth wireless earpieces back then.
I knew it was strange. I knew it wasn't real.
It was a long time ago. I was in college, walking across a field. I was stressed out. I usually was.
The god one was while I was driving. The deja vu came on, and I was afraid that it was going to impair my driving.

Same here. I often think I can hear people around me talking about me. Its very suttle and I can easily dismis it as maybe I'm just imagining it. Or maybe its just my head thinking. It sort of helps me think in a way. If I'm off my meds its gets worse and I get lost in it and think its true. And very distorted.

I don't feel like someones talking about me. This is just sound but it is structured, like voice or music. Some people hear buzzing or ringing sounds that could be tinnitus.

The most freaked out I've ever been was sometimes if I'm trying to take a nap and I'm somewhere between sleep and awake, I've heard 'Phil' in a full speaking voice and immediately sat up trying
to get my sh*t together. It's one of those dreams
that stay with you for a while.

I have a recurring dream about a pitch black ocean. There's a rickety old wooden pier wide enough for my 50s model car. The only light on the pier is a 60w bulb about every thirty feet. The water is just beneath me but I can't see it.

The pier is maybe a mile long. I'm driving about 5 mph to the end. I never see the end and I never come back. Every time I have that dream I'm freaked out for days.

Sometimes if I'm overtired or overstimulated when I go to sleep, I hear the rise and fall of voices like in a crowded restaurant. No words. Just the cadence.

My neurologist wasn't overly concerned, but referred me to a sleep study since that's a potential symptom of a sleep disorder.

I always figured it was my brain discharging some of the extra energy of the day. I suppose overcaffeination would work the same way.

When I first noticed it I thought hmm, that's new.
Lucky to have amusing voices and not terrifying ones.

I remember reading on Wikipedia that it's called hypnagogic hallucinations, and it isn't that abnormal. It happens to me as well, right before I fall asleep. I feel like I'm drifting off passively eavesdropping on people's conversations.

It doesn't realy freak me out its more like food for thought. If I'm off meds its more like a message that is true. Like I will think there is an eagle outside the house taking a message to the dead guy. Or that I must do something like pray to the dead animal skin and all will be ok. Thats when I through it out. I used to think I had a very important message to tell the world, so I would start a diary, that I later read and could not understand it. Anouther time off my meds I wrote a very trubling email to this realy old freind of mine that totaly freeked her out and she won't talk to me anymore. But when I'm on my meds people tell me that I'm not sick and could never tell there is some thing wrong with me. Then they tell me I shouldn't need meds and that I should throw them all down the toilet and be fine. If only they could understand.

You accurately describe something I experience. This static is barely discernable and only matters if I try to hear it or intently listenn to it. Maybe it has something to do with ELF transmission.

When im not on my meds, Zxprexa (20 mg), i hear voices. There so soft, and so faint you can barely hear them but there their. I almost at one time believed in invisible people yelling at me. The voices I hear when not on my medication are "f*g" "loser" "your gay" type of words.

So you got it lot easier than me :P

i think i have all kinds depending on level. when depression is low i have typically three different voices that talk 'to' me.
when it is lighter (like this weekend) i hear faint voices but its like the are sending me messages, that i dont understand, or that i hear others having conversation like i'm not even there...
