Does anyone know of any possible negative interactions between Zyxprexa and Effexor.
Has anyone actually been on this combo.

I have taken effexor a long time ago, and am now taking Zyprexa but have never taken them at the same time.
I would like to move to Costa Rica but was worried that I would not be able to obtain Zyprexa there. Is Zyprexa readily available in the Costa Rican pharmacies (even in remote areas)?

I have taken the two at the same time.
It was particularly helpful during a stressfull transition time.
I just remember that taking more than 2.5 mg of zyprexa made me more depressed.

I did a medication interaction check for you, and all they had was to watch out for CNS effects, such as sedation.
Zyprexa at low doses helps with agitation and anxiety and sleep. I read somewhere that these AD+AAP combos are a lot like the old Triavil (Elavil+perphenazine) that was used for...everything, really, until tardive dyskinesia lawsuits made that practice a thing of the past.

Zyprexa is readily available in Costa Rica. 14 5 mg tablets cost the equivalent of about $60 in private pharmacies. Its not available in the public health care system which is free (meds and treatment) for any citizen or legal resident. Its a pity that only six psychotropic meds are available here in the public sector; Risperdal, Prozac, Effexor, Rivotril, Tegretol, and one other which I can't think of. Many, many people cannot afford prices charged for other meds that they would have to buy privately. So they do without. There is a lot TRD that goes unattended and people just suffer.

My best guess would predict this to be a combination with lots of potential. Prozac with zyprexa has a certain synergistic magic to it and I would guess the combo with effexor would have some similar qualities.

Triavil is the brand name for varying amounts of elavil+varying amounts of perphenazine. Could be used for depression in schizophrenia (keep in mind, schizophrenia was diagnosed differently back then, so a lot of those people would be considered bipolar or diagnosed with psychotic depression today), agitated+anxious depressive states, and I think severe forms of anxiety.
In practice, a sedating antidepressant plus a neuroleptic could be used for just about anything, and pretty much was used for anything, up until the TD lawsuits of the 80s hit. I read somewhere that family docs were particularly fond of Triavil because it could "fix" a number of states they didn't have the time, inclination, or training to delve into.

CE could this have been what was given to me with first panic attack. They were so bad had to fly back to CT from where then living in Florida. The doc called it an upper downer and I reacted so badly cried and walked almost whole night outside? Was 24 at the time. I've been trying to figure out what an upper/downer in the 70's is for years. I took it but one night. Phillipa

I googled it so they still use it? All I know is I was given something that was the most horrible thing ever. Then given valium 5mg three times a day and the mepbrobamate and I felt great. Cold turkedy the mep after probably a year and no withdrawals. Thanks. Phillipa

Theoretically, Zyprexa should boost the anti-depressant power of Effexor and have an anxiolytic effect. It should also help with sleep if insomnia is an issue.
My mileage varied: although I only took two doses of Zyprexa while on Effexor, I found it dropped my mood and slowed me down even further (diagnosis at time was MDD w/ PTSD features). I did get some sleep.
It did not have this effect when combined with Remeron seven years later, for a period of 4 weeks (diagnosis MDD, melancholic sub-type). The side effects (weight gain/hunger) increased my anxiety level and it did not help me sleep, despite doses that would wipe out a person three times my size.
