Need more info about Ritalin

Posted by waterfall on March 17, 2012, at 14:08:20

Hi all,
I've been using Ritalin for a couple of months to help me focus at work. I'm taking 20 mgs. most days.

I was doing a taper/increase involving Risperdal, Sapphris and Zyprexa to treat bi-polar disorder and for about half a year I was feeling very doped up as we tried one drug and then another. Now I'm feeling irritable and I can't figure out why or if I should be concerned.

Is irritability a common feature of Ritalin? Should I worry that it's going to make me manic if it's making me irritable? Is it OK to skip it on the weekends to try to avoid irritability? Or is feeling irritable the result of not having the Risperdal/Sapphris/Zyprexa in the right amounts and not associated with the Ritalin at all?

I'm also having trouble filling my prescriptions. I'm in the mid-west and this week 4 pharmacies turned me away for lack of a supply of the drug. Is this a nation-wide problem and if so what's being done to address it?

I also take Depakote but alone it hasn't been enough to treat the bi-polar disorder. I also take 100 of Zoloft and 1.5 mgs of Klonopin daily.

Thanks for any info. I know this post is a rather involved.

Irritability may be a presentation of your bipolar disorder.

I doubt the Ritalin is making you irritable-stimulants are not really good inducers of mania.

Were you really trying to treat your BP with 3 different antipsychotics? That's ludicrous.

Are you on a mood stabilizer?

The 100 mg of Zoloft is more likely to cause irritability and may destabilize you.

Ritalin Sure Makes Me Irritable At Times

I do get irritable at times from Ritalin. A 10mg dose tends to activate me and make me euphoric in about an hour; but after that, I get a more jittery kind of state, in which I easily get irritated.

is it rebound that your experiencing? I take Concerta, it's a long acting form of ritilin and the rebound is hell. For me rebound can take the form of anxiety, panic, irritability, confustion even crying. Pay attention to when you take it and when you feel the irritability. for me shortly after I take I get about a 15 minute spell of mild anxiety following by fealing like a normal person until it wears off and then the hellish rebound for hours.

I find when things are going good for me, low stress I almost don't notice the rebound, I said almost, but in times of high stress or if I'm depressed that's when rebound is hell.

Suicidal Ritabound

I usually use Ritalin (generic methylphenidate, actually) several times in the morning and Concerta later in the day. For me, the Concerta rebound is less severe than the Ritabound.

On (recreational) drugs forums, I read a lot of stories of people who snort Ritalin, which gives them a sharp peak of euphoria, but they all agree that the rebound is so hellish that it could drive someone into suicide.

Needless to say, snorting Ritalin (and snorting any drug, for that matter) is A VERY BAD IDEA. It is highly addictive and has ruined many a life.
