PTSD, GAD, and Despression

Posted by FreeToLive on March 25, 2012, at 10:07:21

For the past ten years, I have been on Lexapro 10 mg, Topamax 50 mg (two 25mg tablets a day), Ambien as needed and Xanax as needed. It has been a life saver for me. I work and live a pretty normal life. Yes, I am tired, but was off work for 3 months and thought it was going to be long term. After 5 years, my Lexapro was upped to 20 mg, in which I did experience some weight gain of about 20 pounds, but to be honest, I haven't tried to loose it. I need to work on that. I do cut the Lexapro in half and take 1/2 in the early morning and the other mid day as I use my mind for my job and need to think clearly. I hope this helps someone. It does help with all of my symptoms. I have had a ton of counseling to for my panic attacks I used to have and although PTSD doesn't have a total cure, it does subside the symptoms, the anxiety is decreased and I can't say I really have depression. I am generally level on my moods. I do get stressed, but well I believe working and living in combination does that so pills aren't going to make everything perfect, but give us a way to be functional. Only my opinion, as I have had the blessing of psychiatrist(s), psychologist(s), and family doctor(s) to work with over the past ten years. I have put the (s) in there since I moved 6 years ago and had to change doctor's who maintained the re gamine. I hope this helps someone out there as these sites helped me when I became sick and was so worried... Good luck and God Bless on your journey. A positive belief that you will see the other side of this will take you a long way, hang in there.

I also have PTSD and depression. I tried lexapro but at that dose it just zombified me. It did stop the anger and the hyperarousal however.
I gained a lot of weight on that..
topamax is really good on my PTSD symptoms. It helps with the carb cravings but it makes me a little tired.
zoloft is something thats helped a lot with the PTSD side of things too. But the crossover from lexapro to zoloft was brutal.. I went mixed on it.

I am feeling better. I have tried stepping down to 10 from 20 on the Lexapro. It's been about 3 days. Also, wanting to step down from 50 to 25 on the Topamax...maybe I want to see if I can finally be free after ten years...as little at a time stepping backward. I'm working with my doc and I decided it's worth a try.
