Toxicity to the liver is not generally a problem with any of the SSRIs.

Fluoxetine (Prozac) has been associated with hepatitis extremely rarely. Although venlafaxine (Effexor) is not classified as an SSRI, it has occasionally caused liver problems, so I thought I'd mention it.

Some SSRIs, such as Prozac and Paxil, inhibit drug-metabolizing enzymes in the liver, but this is not related to causing liver damage.

Not sure what you mean by clean, but if it's what I think you mean then I would say probably lexapro.

I don't know.

Why are you concerned about your liver?

Just stay away from nefazodone and Depakote if you are concerned about liver abnormalities. If you are worried about effects on the liver, take blood tests for liver function before and after you begin a medication, and continue with periodic blood tests thereafter.

i guess i'm a little concerned because i do take 600 tegretol 150 lamictal and 60 cymbalta ...i am diabetic so get blood work done every 3 mos. and liver functions are always good ..i guess i'm just concerned because they are supposedly harder on the liver than some meds

I know for a fact that cymbalta is hard on the liver. They advertise this and someone I know had this problem when taking it that went away when stoped. I've taken celexa and zoloft of that last decade and never had a liver problem even though I drink a lot. Don't think lamictal has liver problems I took that for a short time. Don't know about the other one you are taking. If you are concerned about a particular med and the liver. Just read the meds prescribing information. Look for the part that talks about hepatic function. Toxic and regualar liver tests required on this med, etc. The other thing you can do is avoid alcohol for atleast 2 hours after taking the med that can cause liver problems. Thats what I do when I take niaspan. As long as I do that my liver enzymes are not elevated, but when I took them with alcohol I had a problem, that went away when I learned what I was doing.

I didn't know about Cymbalta. Thanks for pointing that out.

I forgot to mention Strattera and nefazodone. They are not SRIs, but I thought it important to know.

Would these problems also be associated with Pristiq?

Rarely perhaps, but it's not usually a problem.
