Why do some feel a person must experience side effects for a med to work? If this was true people probably wouldn't take antibiotics either if sick, or thyroid meds. But why would psych meds have to have side effects to work? Makes no sense to me. Phillipa

Who told you this? I think psych meds can work and have few side effects. herpills

I have seen it happen many many times is all of these ways....
Med works great with zero side effects.
Med doesn't work but no side effects.
Med works great but significant side effects.
Med doesn't work and significant side effects.
So I don't know who told you what but it doesn't jive with what you or me have seen at this board over the years.

I have had two doctors say the following: if you don't have side effects, the med probably isn't going to work, or you need more of it; and, are you having side effects? No? That means it's the right med for you.
I think they whistle in the dark a lot.
