I'm hot ALL the time

Posted by Dinah on February 25, 2012, at 10:33:48

Forget hot flashes. I have occasional cool flashes.

I was with a vet a little while ago, in weather considered cold in this area. I was sleeveless as usual - I've given away nearly all of my clothes that have sleeves, though I have a few sweaters. She said it was almost painful for her to see me that way. But when she touched me, she could tell that I was very warm. She suggested I get my thyroid checked. My thyroid has been checked.

I can't bear the idea of another summer. I have an ob/gyn appointment coming up. But in the past, she really hasn't had much to suggest. I've always been a bit this way. I was the kid whose coat was lying on the playground. But lately it's been awful. I had hot flashes a couple of years ago. But now I wouldn't know a hot flash if I had one. It is my normal condition.

Any thoughts?

(Why must I live in the deep south???!!!)

I haven't seen you in a bikini, but I'll take your word for it.

Chuckle. If I were to ever wear a bikini, everyone would know instantly that's not the sort of hot I mean. :)

I've had to start wearing pregnancy pants. With the diabetes and insulin resistance, all my weight is in my belly. The only way to find clothing that doesn't bag everywhere else and slide down my belly is to wear pregnancy pants. I suppose the upside is that everyone is commenting on my "weight loss".

Dinah that is cute. But think menopause or perimenopause. Not to insult you I didn't have the flashed but some drenching night sweats during the worst of it. Taking you for what you write I was working at the time and when I was cold the heavier RN's had fans going as seems weight causes from what I've seen more hot flashes. Maybe some bioidentical hormones for a short period of time? Phillipa

It might have to do with the diabetes. Even when it was well in check, I recall my mom was a human radiator. She had type II. Except for her feet which were always cold. Not that I understand the relationship between being warm and diabetes, it is common enough to be noted.

Does your body temp actual register slightly above normal? Like 98.8?

Risperdal is well known to put on belly fat.

I think I've had one period in a year and a half or so. So that's definitely part of it. Towards the beginning I had easily identifiable hot flashes. Now it's not so easy to identify. Although sometimes I'll actually be cool and put on a sweater only to tear it off again a minute later. And sometimes when I'm hot I feel even more hot for a while.

I'll wait and see what my ob/gyn says about hormones. I think last time she suggested some herb, but I'm not sure it was actually for hot flashes.

Hmmm... It seems it can be associated with diabetes. Maybe I'll check with my endocrinologist. It seems too constant to be directly associated with blood sugar. Thank you.

My internal temperature seems to stay a steady 97.something. But my husband agrees that my actual skin feels hot. So some variant on heat flashes might be involved.

It's also associated with insulin resistance isn't it? Insulin resistance is famous for it. I heard one person say they could tell if someone was diabetic or pre-diabetic by looking at their body shape.

Risperdal might play a role. I take it so seldom though, at least usually. If asked I always say about ten a month. But my prescriptions last much longer than three months, so I must overestimate. If they last six months, that would be five a month. And that seems more like what my prescriptions last. I ought to mark when I start one.

Dinah I would like to share what I now know and didn't at the time is that any symptom both mental and physical are going to be worse but there will be an end in site. I made the mistake well can't call it a mistake as didn't know. Thought I'd feel horrible forever. It did start to wan but thought I could maintain youth with bioidenticals after 6o years and only take during the menopause. Now I'm doing it all over again and believe me it's not fun. Phillipa

I've heard of bioidenticals, but really don't know much about them. What did you think? When did you take them, and when and why did you stop? I really don't know how it works, but I'm very curious.

I think I'd rather avoid hormones. But it's been two or three years, and I'm sick of it.

Before it was more refined I had a ob-gyn when going through it prescribe biest but it's not based on any bloodwork or saliva testing. I used a cream of combo of estrogen and Progesterone yam based. No side effects on them but could not take the prescription prempro. I could not tolerate it at all. The biest could. Stopped for years til moved here and then a couple years later old pdoc that retired suggested some estrogen for anxiety. So I did google searches found Dr Ronald Brown has a website and book out. Goggle Carolinahealthspan.com. He is pay out of pocket with medicaire so met with him an hour he ordered bloodtesting thinks it more accurate. He based the estrogen/progesterone/testosterone on those levels. They were compounded at a compounding pharmacy still using a bit. Good info google Stanleyscompounding pharmacy Charlotte NC. Good info there and they do saliva testing and you can order on the net. But I was terrified of breast cancer. So never took them properly sound like me? And from all the internet reading I did it said if start after age of 60 not good and was over. So have been trying to wean off. I'm back to night sweats not sure if from that or from stress as also have the rash. But all the info I've read says if start at peri or menopause time it will save you from the actual menopause. I was having no symptoms other than more frequent and shorter periods. I didn't need any. That's my opinion only. Well this time sure didn't help me at all. Phillipa

I was cold all my life but now in my late fourtys I'm hot all the time too. I find meds that increase sweat intolerable.

On the plus side my heating cost are down.
