Need help while waiting for help

Posted by kagome on February 24, 2012, at 12:03:48

Hi I'm new, and I really appreciate the information I've gotten from this list so far. Now I'm wondering if anyone has any specific advice.

I had to go off Lamictal a few weeks ago and am starting on Parnate (while staying on wellbutrin 150mg). So far (1 week on 20mg, 1 on 30mg) it has just caused insane exhaustion (no insomnia, just sleeping 12-hrs a day and wanting to sleep more!) as well as muscle cramps and serious stomach issues. But I know it's worked for others and I want to keep trying. The Wellbutrin has always been an adjunct - never that helpful for depression itself - and now i feel like it might as well be a placebo for all the help it gives with energy and motivation. I also take klonopin as needed for anxiety but I'm not taking it often since it just makes me more tired.

The thing is I've been a suicidal, catatonic mess for weeks now and I'm getting desperate. Despite any good intentions to do things like exercise, shower, etc the most I'm able to do is drag myself from bed to couch and back again, with some typing in-between. I definitely don't think I can do this another month, which is how long parnate will probably take to kick in and how long it is till my next p-doc appointment. Is there anything, I mean anything, I can do in the meantime? It seems like everything takes so long to work except maybe ketamine... I know it's a long shot, but is there any possibility of getting it from an overseas pharmacy? I know no one could post a contact but would it even be possible? Is there anything else that could possibly provide some relief so that I'm still around when the meds finally kick in? Thanks for listening...

It is generally safe to combine Wellbutrin with Parnate, but I am wondering if it might be producing the side effects you are experiencing.

Zyprexa makes a good emergency anti-suicide drug.

Thanks! I'll look into Zyprexa. About how long does it usually take to kick in?

i would totally trust it!

Thanks, B2chica, glad to meet a fellow Inu Yasha fan! I'm definitely going to try Zyprexa (assuming my p-doc complies). Now I just have to hold on till next Monday...

Anyway thanks, everyone, for the suggestion. I can't express how good it is to hear that something might help during the month of pain that seems in store for me until Parnate kicks in. Not too excited about weight gain, but times like these really help with priorities - right now it's all about just making it through the day. Thanks again for support and info, I'm so glad I found this site!

Kagome,
i do want to add that for some folks it hits hard with somnolence. Definitely take at night.
but it never seems to bother me at 5mg. when i up to 10mg i feel it at first but within a week or two i'm taking it at 7 or 7:30 and no problems.
I wish you the best with zyprexa. i wish i tolerated the weight gain better. i'd be on it permanantly. but then again. i like having an 'emergency med' that works when i'm at my worst. something to at least get me stable if i have any of my 'weirdness' going on.

I just met with my p-doc yesterday, and since I've been sleeping pretty much 24/7 she decided to go for abilify instead. She said it was pretty much the same in terms of emergency fast-acting anti-suicidality but is less sedating, So here's hoping she's right!

ask someone else here on board but i know the dosage has an effect cant remember if lower is more activating or if higher is.

but i did have a bad reaction to abilify. Became Very aggitated and angry. within a week or so of it. so just watch your body and reactions make sure to keep pdoc updated.

but it was definately not sedating. it is also supposed to be weight neutral. i really hopeit works for you!

Best wishes.
