Viibryd: 7 months, 80mg/day, worthless for my GAD

Posted by Chris O on February 15, 2012, at 5:21:21

I just weaned myself off Viibryd after 7 months with little benefit from my GAD. Honestly, I feel better off it than on it. I also do not understand how SSRIs helped me for one year over a decade ago, but since that time have had little or no effect. Perhaps I just imagined they helped me in 1999-2000. However, I also had some noticeable side effects at that time. Since 2004, I've had almost no side effects from SSRIs (minor weight gain), and I've taken them in increasingly higher doses (Prozac 20mg in 2000; 100mg in 2006). On a side note, when I went to get my last Viibryd prescription filled, it cost $112. Nice. It's not on their "preferred list" of drugs anymore, I guess. I hope this drug benefits someone, because at that price, it had better.

I'm sorry. Why is it that is seems not many benefiting from meds anymore at least the unipolar and anxiety disorders. I wonder what the answer is? I've not found it. So Viibryd is expensive and worthless for Gad in your opinion will you take another med? Phillipa

Phillipa:

I'll probably end up taking another med, probably a TCA or MAOI inhibitor, as I have not gone down that road yet. Be taking it out of desperation to function more than anything else. The annoying walled in feeling of anxiety that never goes away inhibits me to no end. I just wish it would go away.

Viibryd is working very well for my OCD. Have you tried Luvox?

Eric worked well for me first time. Dumb doc took me off said he had to trial a new med and never worked well again. Phillipa

Phidippus:

Glad to hear Viibryd is working for your OCD. What does are you taking? Sometimes, I feel like the pharmacy is slipping me placebo pills. I've tried all the SSRIs, I think, over the past seven years, and at high doses. Yes, I tried Luvox. 300mg a day. 8 months, a year, something like that. It didn't do much of anything. The thing that I find so bizarre though is that I don't really get any side effects anymore, either. Almost nothing. I know that when SSRIs worked for me, in 1999-2000, I had the anorgasmia, some trembling in my hands, some weight gain. Now it's just a big nada, zip. Oh, the joys of a damaged brain.

I see that you tried all of the SSRIs. What about Effexor?

Nardil. If you haven't tried it yet, shame on your doctor.

Scott:

Nardil or nortrip were the two my doctor wanted me to try next. I decided to give Viibryd a try because I was hoping that something would work without the side effects of the MAOIs and TCAs. Effexor, in 2001, maybe two weeks of trial, but that's it. It seemed too activating at the time, but maybe I didn't give it a fair trial. Not sure where I'll go next. Maybe nortrip or Nardil. Just don't know. Thanks for responding to my post. I've read your posts many times. They are very helpful. How are you doing?
