Tegretol and histamine?

Posted by sheilac on February 5, 2012, at 17:07:32

I take Zyrtec and Singular for allergies and asthma. Since starting the Tegretol I have noticed problems with my sinuses and the need to use my inhaler more.

Could Tegretol be interfering with my histamine levels?

I feel like the Tegretol is cancelling out the anti-histamine.

Carbamazepine can induce enzymes that break down various drugs faster....... it could be that your antihistamines are one of the ones affected, though of course it might just be coincidence.

Speak to your pharmacist, they should be able to say definatly one way or the other

Side effect of tegretol is nasal congestion, which usually goes away.
