What do your mixed states feel like?

Posted by Raisinb on January 23, 2012, at 13:25:35

Mine are panicky and tearful and agitated, and sometimes full of teeth-grinding rage.

Also, how do you treat them? When the mood stabilizers don't prevent it, is there something you take prn to lessen the intensity?

When I have a mixed episode I become very depressed and agitatated, to the point of not being able to sit still. My anxiety goes through the roof and my thoughts race all over the place. Sometimes I have 'magical' thinking and sometimes my thoughts become incohesive. I also hear internal voices telling me what to do and sometimes hallucinate. I often get an impalpable rage at the same time.

Seroquel is my go to for mixed states.

Depakote works for me. So does Zyprexa. Seroquel makes me somewhat agitated. I guess the objective is to treat the mixed-state prophylactically by establishing a mood-stabilizing treatment.

Yeah, that would be nice:) I feel one coming on, so I was wondering what to take in vivo.

Thank you for the description. I was just diagnosed BP in the fall, so I have trouble distinguishing what is "mixed." I have always had rages and panics.

My mixed states are just like yours.

Except I figured out where mine come from. Toxins. When I take stuff to mop up crap, my favorite being Source Natruals Resveratrol made from Polygonum, all that stuff is gone within a couple days. My toxins are probably lyme related, or similar, but all of us could potentially have some unseen stealth toxic issues. It is not something most of us ever consider or study so we aren't aware of it.

Other things such as mood stabilizers, benzos, antipsychotics....can help soften the edges of the mixed state but they do nothing to correct the actual problem. So the actual problem is allowed to progress, and the meds themselves can create their own problems. I rely on various meds or herbs for emergency as-needed use, not regular daily usage. I get much better mileage doing stuff that is actually helpful and healthy and supportive to the nervous system. Meds don't do that.
