Wellbutrin (Voxra)

Posted by consider on January 16, 2012, at 10:42:17

Hi! My first post here :) I'm a 40-year old guy from Sweden. I'm diagnosed with Clinical depression and anxiety. Been taking Remeron 45-60mg and Neurontin 1200mg for 10 years or so. I've mainly kept Remeron as a sleep aid, since it's never really helped my depressive symptoms (I guess). I also take Xanax PRN a couple of times a week, sometimes less.

I just got home from an appointment with my psychiatrist, and a new medicine to try out. It's called Voxra (bupropion) here in Sweden. Took the pill, 150mg (modified release) 30 minutes ago along with 600mg Neurontin, and I feel so scared right now... Will my anxiety sky-rocket through the roof? My psychiatrist didn't mention much about side-effects, perhaps because he didn't want to scare me.

What's your experiences with the start-up phase on bupropion?

Regards Jens

when I started wellbutrin sr it shot my anxiety and nervousness threw the roof. I still take it but generic now which is milder and I take less. I've also been on it now since 2003, and anxiety not much of a problem now. I also take zyprexa and perphenzine which reduce anxiety. so they balance each other out.

Wellbutrin causes both anxiety and can cause siezures at high doses. BUT don't worry because 150 or even 300mg has no siezure activty in most of the population. If you took like 600mg XL of Wellbutrin there is a chance. I rerember wellbutrin used to give me "auras" thought my head of electricity and made me very irrtible and on the edge.

Wellbutrin is suppost to act similar to Methylpheidate [Rilitin] but it acts more on norephrinephine rather than dopamine. This is what causes the "anxiety" because depedning on some people who have low levels of noradrenaline it helps them. If you suffer from anxiety and you already take anxiety meds... wellbutrin should be known to irritate anxiety disorders. It's a stimulating antidepressant, its for low motivation/energy and low interst in life. What could be also an option if you stay on Wellbutrin is to try Indral [Propranolol] because it blocks much noradrenaline.

You should check out Effexor because it is sometimes used for anxiety but it also is stimulating too. BUT it doesnt work very much on dopamine. I don't know what would be best you because I am not a doctor these are mirely suggestions.

Take Care

Matt

Wellbutrin can be very helpful, but you should watch out for tension, anxiety, and hypomania (not sleeping, feeling much better than normal, being super productive). I became hypomania when I was first put on Wellbutrin. It was fun at first, but the tension and insomnia made it difficult after a few days. My experience is not necessarily common, just something to watch for.

One week on 150mg ended me up in hospital as doc said hypomanic. Needless to say they stopped that one fast. Phillipa

Thank you all for your replies! I will give Voxra a try a couple of weeks and evaluate it.

I've gone through many AD's, and I have always gave them all up in a couple of days because of anorgasmia.

Except Effexor, which i tried 2 weeks, but then I got call from my M.D regarding elevated PSA levels (3,3), so I thought I was going to die anyway, no meaning in taking AD's then. But the PSA level dropped below 2,0 later on.

My main problem is that my depression causes sexual dysfunction, low sensitivity and weak orgasms.

I beleived at first it was something physical, prostate inflammation or so, but my psychiatrist was certain it was a depression behind it. He said if you have ejaculation the day before the test, PSA levels will be higher.

Sorry if I'm rambling now :)
