What Do you Feel About The Newer Prescribed Doses

Posted by Phillipa on December 10, 2011, at 11:34:19

Seems the pdocs are now prescribing lower doses of ad's and don't seem to like med cocktails here. One for depression, one for anxiety, and possibly one more that's it and starting at very low doses compared to what used to be. Exceptions to extreame mental illness. Does this fit your current doc? Are different parts of the country different? Phillipa

Im on the east coast, and I was started at 12.5mg zoloft,7.5mg remeron, and .25mg klonopin. But my pdoc knew that I was afraid to take anything,we had to go slow. But I found that 25mg of zoloft worked for me, and when I went up to 37.5mg,thats when i had the issues w/weight,and rls.I think some people do better w/low doses.Didnt they start the benzos years ago on ridiculous high doses?I had read that was when benzos got that bad image, now, the doses are much lower. One pdoc I went to refused to keep seeing me as she said I wasnt med compliant.

Well 41 years ago was started on 400mg of Mephbrobamate sp? and valium 5mg three times a day. Just naturally went down in dose. The meph I just quit one day and no side effects at all didn't even know I stopped taking it. All my pdocs have always said med noncompliant as won't go up in doses. I'm glad I didn't as now the trend is lower doses and I think how horrible it would be to withdraw from high doses of meds. Phillipa

My pdoc (at a public mental health clinic in the midwest) prefers low doses, but is not against med cocktails.

I think it also depends on the symptoms diagnosis. But lower doses do seem to be the new way of prescribing. How are you doing? Phillipa

My doc hates adding multiple meds. Even for basic cases of depression.
Telling someone they cant have an SSRI + NRI and trying to get them on an SNRI is pretty ridiculous since we all know people react differently to these drugs. Its a very individual thing.
I think you need to see someone that really wants to help. Not whats convenient for them or your insurance.
It is more work on their part but the results can be worth it.

I'm doing pretty well. So far the Klonopin taper has not been bad at all. I think it helps that I was only on 0.5mg for awhile. That last time I tried to taper I think I went straight from 1.5mg to nothing in a month.

The goal isn't to give up Klonopin completely, but to go to something like prn once a week as opposed to daily use. herpills

Herpills can you take valium? As a longer half life like valium might make this very doable? Phillipa
