Scared to try Strattera

Posted by alchemy on November 1, 2011, at 12:05:01

I forgot that I haven't tried this yet. I don't have they typical add. I just get restless and feel like time moves too slow, sometimes crazy slow. Ritalin can sometimes help a little. And my motivation is NULL. Quick brain turnout. Of course depression. Just surviving.
Most drug trials end up making my depression worse. I see a lot of stories that that happens. And I really don't need to feel tired.
My Dr is also worried about making my rapid cycling worse.

Any positive stories?
Would ritalin/dexedrine or strattera be more likely to make cycling.worse?

I really can't answer that question for you. However, I will say that drugs that don't make good antidepressants tend not to produce mania. Strattera is not a good antidepressant.

I have seen Strattera work miracles for adults with ADD. I don't know if it is equally effective for ADHD.

What kind of pattern does your cycle follow?

Strattera was a great appetite suppressant for me...thats about it.
i was on ritalin and it seemed to help a bit. but now i'm on adderall and i can REALLY tell if i miss one. it has been great for me. i'm taking it TID.

IMHO

My cycle pattern is usually every 3-4 days, and sometimes once or twice a day. But it is still random.
I have never found someone that feels how I feel with being "stuck in time". I don't know if it would touch anything like that. And I need lots of variety, aggravated if I sit in a class or at work. But I am organized, so its not really add.

Amphetamines can definitely induce mania, psychosis, mood instability, and agitation. That said, I seem to recall reading that some doctors have used amphetamines to treat some forms of acute mania with success. Also, when I took Adderal back in the day and my dose was just right (which for me was 40mgs--30xr AM, 10 tablet afternoon), my mood was elevated, but more stable. At that point, I definitely responded to amphetamines better than reuptake inhibitors in terms of focus, mood, and mood stability.

As always, your mileage may vary. The cool thing about stimulants is that they kick in fast and wear off fairly quickly, so if you have a problem, just stop taking it. I think Straterra takes a while to start working and makes more long lasting changes in your brain chemistry.

no not tired. not super activating either. only noticed more alert.

and about the 'standing still in time' thing i most certainly have felt that. i believe i was either on ritalin or ritalin LA...im thinking the LA. and i dont remember if i felt it while i was ON it or if when i would forget a dose. but i remember it felt TERRIBLE,literally it felt like half a day would go by and it would only be 1/2 hour or something bad like that.

best wishes.
