Scott: Would like you to weigh in on something I'

Could you weigh in on the thread above about the anxiety that I'm having with desiprimine and give your advice? Also, could you respond to Chairman's last post on it? I wanted to see what you thought of his/her thoughts on combining a TCA with an SSRI.

Thanks Scott,

I really do appreciate it.

Laney, if I can weigh in....

1. Combining a TCA with an SSRI is pretty common (though it is moe usual to use sertraline than paroxetine due to an interaction..... might be worth asking your doc about switching your SSRI to sertraline 50mg per day)

2. The anxiety at the begining of treatment isnt unusual - you could add a low dose of benzo (for example Klonopin 0.5mg twice a day) for a week or two till your body adjusts

3. I'd consider pushing the dose you're on, upto say sertraline 50mg per day and desipramine 75mg per day

4. If the anxiety persists and doesnt settle, you might consider trying mirtazapine (Remeron) 15mg at night for a couple of nights then 30mg at night.

I'd definatly ask your doc about a benzo for a couple of weeks - just dont take it for longer than that without a break

Hi Laney.

I think you have been given good advice here. I would only add that if you respond to Paxil better than you do to Zoloft, you can simply decrease the dosage of the TCA by 50%.

Paxi was the only one that worked at l0mg for me with the benzos. Wish I hadn't stopped taking it. Phillipa
