food intake/anxiety correlation

Posted by b2chica on October 6, 2011, at 9:21:51

finally had pdoc appt on mon.
he upped perphenizine slightly at night.
he seems to think part of my issue of anxiety are my eating habits.
i seem to peak anxiety mid-morning and late evening (after babies are asleep) i told him i think the anxiety is there around 7:00 but because i'm so busy i dont notice it as much. then when all is quiet it hits with vengence.

he told me he thinks it has a lot to do with my eating habits. as when my anxiety is bad in the day i cant eat very well or much.
he talked about transporter proteins and how my body needs these with the medication.
So he wants me to eat better...More.
but he said i need to find foods that i enjoy eating as he said "you even sound blah as you described your lunch (that i couldnt eat). You need to find foods you enjoy, fruits, veggies, etc."
So i need to go back to eating high protein breakfast, mid morning snack, light lunch, mid afternoon snack, light dinner and he also wants me to try evening snack.
Man I'd gain so much weight on this...
the bad thing is i'm just not hungry at these times. especially the mid afternoon and evening. But he said even if its a bit of cheese or something.

What do you all think of this. Those of you with anxiety, does eating more often help you out at all?

I mean i completely believe my pdoc in theory, but not sure if it will work for me.
just wondering if anyone else has been told this?

Only thing ever told about food and not from a pdoc that stabile Blood sugar reqires a small amount of protein every four hours. Since don't taste of smell food makes me sad and ups my anxiety. I agree with you that when you are busy you don't have anxiety and afterwards it hits. Same here. Phillipa

i think its not so much that it hits after im not busy. cuz i feel it bad when i'm busy but one the tasks keep my mind occupied so i dont dwell on it and two its like anxiety gives me energy, the more physical i am the less bothersome it is. So when i'm running around after two kiddos and cleaning up it doesnt seem as bad or as troublesome.
Then when all is calm, part of me waits for the storm to hit and two that's when i have nothing else to occupy my mind.

But this has always been a concern of my pdoc as it disrupts my sleep habits and in turn effects my depression significantly.
So keeping my anxiety at bay is ALways a concern.

glad he upped the perphenazine though. i'm thinking after i regulate a little maybe if i still have it bad mid morning he could up the mornning dose as well.

pdoc said he wants to go slow so i just take 2mg in am and 4 in evening now. we're going to try that. if that doesnt work im to try taking xanax regularly again only earlier like 6 or 7 pm so that i can still wake at 5am.
if that isn't working then he will increase morning first then evening again.

so that's the plan.
right now anxiety at bay with 600mg of gabapentin in my system. thats good but i'm sluggish at work.

i'm ready to try the increase in the am as well.

I never realized how much the perphenazine was helping till I decreased it and now back up again and feeling great. Unlike on the lower dose. This time I decreased the zyprexa and have not noticed much (if any) difference.

That's great and it doesn't cause the weight gain like zyprexa? Phillipa

Yes, I'm having an easyer time with the zyprexa reduction than I did with the perphenazine reduction. Current meds are 12mg x3 perphenazine and 10mg zyprexa. I seem to function better this way than the other.

awesome zyprexa.
i think its gonna be one of those things where i just build up a tolerance cuz i hurt my back this weekend so i've been taking more gabapentin than normal and its not really helping too much with the pain and i STILL feel lots of anxiety through the gabapentin. so i think he should up the morning dose as well.
and hopefully that will be enough to get me through the winter. even if i only have to up every 6mo. it should take me a while before i get to high.

any issues with TD for you regarding perphenazine?

Its hard to say wheather it gave me TD or not. When I don't take cogentin with it I can get a little shaky. But was much worse when I took the abilify before the perphenazine. So it could be from the abilify. But I take 1mg cogentin everyday and there does not seem to be a problem.
