Any1 had to washout while working a demanding job?

Posted by zonked on October 1, 2011, at 19:37:27

I was just thinking - I have a very good chance of landing the best job (compensation-wise) I've ever had; it's pending final executive approval by people I did not get the chance to meet.

I may not make it for this job, I hope I do; but I have no doubt that I will be working again. The offer depends on them at this point.

I am keeping my eye on Viibryd; especially in terms of energy/focus/concentration (and of course, mood/anxiety) in case I decide that the tendency for one to gain enormous amounts of weight on Nardil ends up being too much for me, or it poops out.

Have any of you gone through painful/weird washouts while in a demanding job and made it out okay?

I won't be touching anything any time soon. I just don't like the 40-45 lbs I've gained on Nardil. (My blood sugar is fine, and Nardil is not known for causing diabetes so I'm not worried about that.)

My goals in life don't really include sex right now, but some day that would be nice :P

Oh, man. The *natural* anxiety of looking for/starting work - I have to remember people without mental disorders get anxiety, too.

Great for you if you get this job, given how bad the economy S***ks right now. I'm sure you can manage something. Cutting down the dosage of nardil gradually. Or staying on it. Are you still gaining weight, or has your weight stabilized? If it's stabilized, maybe you can just stay where you are and try to lose the weight or gradually taper off the nardil.

Yeah... it's a strange question. Going off Nardil was responsible for me leaving work in the first place; but at some point in the future if I can't stand the weight gain any longer I may do a taper, if I can get two weeks off.

I want to see how TRD folks do on Viibryd first, and be well-established at work so if I get "sick" I won't be fired. (This is a contract position so they can let me go at any time. It may turn into full-time work at the contract's termination if I am still needed and they are satisfied with my work.)

It's just planning ahead. Also I am procrastinating about cleaning my house! LOL! Par for the course with me - I am NOT an organized person and find every excuse to get back to the damned computer...

I have had difficult transitions on meds before, but nothing quite like a washout. I would try it, and if you start to slide really badly, talk to your doc and consider a short-time disability to do it without flipping out at work.

I just did a washout from Effexor 300mg; 1 week taper, 10 days off everything, now into day 5 of 10mg Parnate. I made it out OK. It was/is the busiest and most demanding time of year for me. All my annual deadlines were on Friday and I had to work more hours than usual. It was really bad timing but I had to do it. Not going to lie; it was awful and really difficult. Somehow I only missed 1.5 days of work. I really could have pushed myself to go into work those days but was able to take the time off.

What got me through it?? A great support system (find someone you can cry to and talk to), several trips to the restroom to cry, biting my tongue, not making any rash decisions, positive thinking (this too shall pass), and my family. Most days I wanted to stay in bed, but I have mouths to feed and insurance to keep. I couldn't risk losing my job, especially in this economy.

Goodluck with the job. I hope it all works out for you!
