Yes.
If we look up the word "dementia", we see that its use is not reserved for Alzheimer's Dementia. It is a generic term describing cognitive deficits and altered mental states.

1. Deterioration of intellectual faculties, such as memory, concentration, and judgment, resulting from an organic disease or a disorder of the brain. It is sometimes accompanied by emotional disturbance and personality changes

Based on this definition, should we not apply the word "dementia" to describe some of the symptoms of MDD? I have seen it used this way only rarely in the medical literature. However, I use it often when I describe my affective disorder to others. It helps drive home the seriousness of these disorders.

Ah yes. I think I knew that. Geez, I think I have a touch all those disorders. When I read about individual ones, I identify so much. It's hard to understand the differences. Especially due to my hypochondriac-ism. Thanks.

Scott personally I always have. Sometimes I worry about Alzheimers do a google search and reassure myself that I don't have this. When anxiety down concentration much better and read books all kinds of stuff, order from catalogues on line. Why do you ask btw. Phillipa

Because it is imperative that the cognitive impairments present in depressive disorders be recognized for being what they are. They are serious and debilitating features of these illnesses. "Dementia" is a serious word.

Yes it is. But from what I know which isn't much NAC and Deplin can help it? Listened to CD pdoc gave me given to her by the drug companies I guess? I wish I knew what the answer is. I think inflammation plays a huge role Phillipa

Recent investigations suggest that the risk of developing Alzheimers increases substantially for people who have affective disorders or schizophrenia. The risk might be as high as twice that seen in the general population. Late-life depression produces even greater risk.

>Scott, are you experiencing some dementia during your withdrawal? I think did withdrawing from a mere 6 mg od Emsam. I was scared when I realized I couldn't remember the day of the week. I went in and out of delirium. Lucid, then not. I feared Alzheimer's.
I still hsve difficulty with working memory. I hope it'll come
fully back.Maybe this is not what you are talking about and inam missing your point.

Hi FB.
Beginning at age 20, dementia became perhaps the most prominent feature of my depression. It prevented me from finishing college and holding down a job.
