surgical procedures and Nardil

Posted by lifelover on September 21, 2011, at 16:32:09

Hey guys if I were to get laser eye surgery while taking Nardil would it be ok ? or would I have temporarily come off it and then go back on once the surgery is finished. Also what about getting my wisdom teeth removed? I though I remember reading somewhere that they have an anestetic that is safe to take with nardil. Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thankyou.

I have had ECT and multiple anathesias since since starting parnate. Anesthesia is not really a problem. Just tell them you take an MAOI. The only real problem is demerol, which some anethesologists use but which can easily be replaced with something else.

Tell your dentist, no epinephrine, which is typically mixed with novocaine to cause vasoconstriction. My dentist just switched to another local anasthetic which worked just fine. I had to remind him twice though. I said, the second time, I don't want to end up in the ER and he said, I'm sure it's not that serious. I told him it is. MAOIs mixed with epinephrine can cause severe hypotensive crises. When I told him this, he got much more serious about it and wrote a note in my chart.

Speak to your psychiatrist and the doctor doing the surgery.

Lasix eye surgery requires no anesthesia if that is what you are considering had it. Just 5mg of valium first. No pain involved at all. Phillipa
