I started Strattera please review

Posted by rjlockhart04-08 on August 1, 2011, at 13:41:43

Hey Babble,

I started strattera 1 week ago and I still do not feel the effects of it. The good thing is my doctor finally prescribed sometrhing for ADHD because she doesnt believe I have it. My mother told her I need something to help with focusing and she ok'd the strattera. Very irronic my mother actually helped me this time.

But listen, if you have taken strattra please post what the effects where so I can read them to see if its actually doing anything with me.

I really appricaite all info this website gives. My life isnt going the way it should, or the way I expected it to, but I want to thank everyone for the support that has given to me here.

How long does Strattera take to work??

Matt

Best of luck with this.

Oh dear, we are *all* in big trouble now!

Never, ever let a CareBear do all the talking.......(after all, we are *just* stuffed animals, you know....)

I didn't mean to put any pressure on you. I remember you having success with the med, so assumed you would have a little personal and subjective experience.

What a fine line we walk here on the meds board.

Sorry care bear.

currently I'm on 40mg. Today it seems diffrent but the past couple days I havent felt anything from it and I'm thinking maybe im not absorbing it in my stomach

I am up on the way to 80mg soon. I have the starter pack. it goes 25..40...60...80mg

I know that you have posted this before. I have been reading your posts in the past about strattera and I have to say they are very helpful. You have many links in explaining it.

But I have to ask. How does the stattera feel for you?? like does it give you energy like Wellbutrin?? or just more calming. I've been on it for 1 week and 1 day and I have not hit the point where it is kicking in.

Thanks much.

Matt

???

Huh? Sorry for what?

Could you be jumping to conclusions? Pressure?

I was making a joke. Plain and simple. Trouble with the semi-death of this darn place.....not enough posts for you to get to *know* me/others because if there were, you would have known I was just being me and being corny, dumb, and silly.

Remember, sometimes a cigar is really, really just a cigar :-)

You have a great memory. Matt and I have talked about my long Strattera history several times before. The trouble is I responded immediately and have continued to for years, which is rare and not so helpful, I don't think.

No worries, 'specially imagined ones, okay? - 10der

I only have a minute for right now tonight, but let me say 2 things....

1, I doubt 40 mgs would do it for you because it's simply not enough for your body weight as a guy. Look it up and you will see the ratio of mg/kg of body weight means you'll likely need much more. 40 mg did something for me, but 80 mg was/is awesome.

2. I've never taken Wellbutrin. In fact. I've only had four psych meds in my body ever - Prozac, Ritalin, Strattera and Ativan. So I can't really compare energizing qualities. I didn't need energizing. I needed focus, calming for the barrage of input/thoughts distracting me, clarity, quiet, ability to make executive decisions and not get that "paralysis of will" all the time. Strat helped hugely with all of those. It was smooth, gentle, nothing like Ritalin which always felt more focused on focus but didn't do as much for the other issues.

After 7+ years, I don't know exactly how it feels for me....since it's hard to recall the other way of feeling, but I can function. I don't lose everything. I can focus and tear myself away. I can organize and decide stuff better, though it still feels overwhelming at times. I have had to have much therapy AND little lifestyle tweaks as well as Great sleep, healthy food and a bunch of other things. It's a combined strategy to keepthe ADD craziness and depression away.

I'll be back soon....gotta run

I took strattera for 2 weeks and didn't find it to be stimulating.

Matt, my pdoc told me to expect a delayed effect. He didn't explain why. So I don't know if that's true, if it is true for everyone, or why.

Sometimes the delayed effect is good, but can be frustrating for someone like myself who is used to feeling or wanting to feel things *now*. I found it difficult to be patient after taking more direct stimulants.

Good luck getting the dosage dialed in.

:-). How does one apologize for apologizing? I was twitchy yesterday, very anxious. Besides, email posts can seem so disembodied. Now I see your humor.

I am a silly old bear.

Oh. I see here that you were an rare immediate responder. That backs my experience and advice of my pdoc that Strattera has a more delayed benefit.

I have mostly overlooked this med, due to other meds which preferentially effect norepi making me, well, feel like tearing my hair out/anxious as hell/can't sit still (effexor, cymbalta, nortrip).

I wonder if some ADD types do better with dopamine (amphetamines) and other with norepi (strattera).

I have heard "strattera is sh*t" so many times that I've not been very interested it until I saw your post. Dunno my new pdoc (old one left the practice) but I am thinking about augmentation strategies.

Did you feel REALLY anxious in the beginning?

Z, It might be officially contraindicated with maoi's. For what that's worth.....

I think it is for itty bitty Emsam.

Did you read about Ritalin? It has an interesting mechanism of being a dopamine reuptake inhibitor and an agonist--if I got that right. Check out the wiki entry

my liver couldn't take strattera at the lowest dose in a very short amount of time. blood work to check your liver fubction is important, otherwise it;s a good medication.
