Nuvigil/Provigil vs pstim?

Posted by sheilac on June 22, 2011, at 7:53:00

It seems the majority of my irritability is related to my Adderall for my ADD.

I tried Nuvigil once and I really liked it except for the fact that it seemed to effect my histamine levels. I had a constant stuffy nose and sinus headache. But it worked great for my ADD.

Is it worth replacing my stimulant (Adderall) with Provigil or Nuvigil and just taking an additional anti-histamine in the morning?

I think you should get your mood-stabilizer situation worked out before you change medications again. Personally, I think Adderall would be better--its a proven antidepressant and its been around forever, so its a more predictable drug. Plus its cheaper.

Thanks for confirming that about Adderall. I always thought I got an antidepressant feel from Adderall which I thought was weird. Antidepressants make me jittery and nervous. My doc likes me on Adderall.

I have an appt this afternoon (so I don't have to wait until July) and we'll see what she says.

Yesterday afternoon I took 2mg of Klonopin and 300mg of Lithium and I am STILL tired, even after taking 10mg of Adderall. Hopefully I will get some energy.

I don't see much different in 450mg and 300mg of Lithium for me. Much higher than that and it makes me depressed (along with weight gain and major hair loss).

She may want me to stick with the low dose Trileptal instead. I don't know.

I have an issue with my liver that causes me to react to meds at much lower doses and sometimes I get the opposite reaction (Lithium, Depakote, etc. make me depressed).

I had no idea adderall was considered an antidepressant. Thought was just for add or adhd? Thanks for the information. Phillipa ps good luck at the docs!!!!

Have you tried Vyvanse? It is by the same pharmacuetical company as Adderall.. it is less agitating ..it releases slowly through out the day. I switched from Adderall 30XR to Vyvanse 70mg and have stayed on it for the past 5 years. It really works smoothly.

Lithium made me both irritable and apathetic - great combination for someone with severe depression right? Wrong!

Sheila, 2mgs of klonopin could be a big source of fatigue. Have you and your doc looked at that piece?

I eventually went over to xanax when taking dexedrine, which I will second has an short acting antidepressant effect. Xanax is also has a reputation as a mood brighter.

I think it's great you can tolerate nuvigil.

Even though you have med sensitivities, you have some reasonable options.

Vyvanse...Re: Nuvigil/Provigil vs pstim?

I tried the lowest dose of Vyvanse and it was great, but it just never wore off. I couldn't sleep for days, so I had to stop that.
